[Eugen] All hail to the Marshals
Początkowo opublikowane przez (Eug)MadMat:
For some it may have been a rumor, for others an open secret, but here are the facts …

We realize that there always are expectations from Wargame’s fans for more news about what is coming next, and for a greater involvement in helping us crafting a large and lasting community around the Wargame series. Although we can’t answer every question and message individually, we wish to fulfil those expectations.
That is why, in order to work more closely with our community, we have decided to elevate a selected few from among its rank to a special role, that of “Eugen’s Marshals”.

Those distinguished dignitaries shall be the intermediaries between Eugen and the community by providing us with its feedbacks, expectations, criticisms and/or (we hope ;) ) encouragements. And in a mirrored way, to feed the community with insights about what’s coming up next, the reasons behind some choices, … Marshals having direct access to us through mails or chat, they are aware of things the “common man” doesn’t know about: so if they state something, you should believe them.

Yet, their role won’t be restricted to spokesmen, one way or the other. They are also to pre-test patches, in order to give their feedbacks beforehand and influence balance changes for both Wargame: European Escalation & Wargame: Airland Battle.

As of now, Marshals are the driving force behind the incoming final Wargame: European Escalation patch, both proposing and testing the changes to come. For obvious reasons, no balance changes have or will be made as long as the World Cup is live. But once the latter will be over, we will release Wargame: European Escalation's final patch. Then, we will proceed to move more thoroughly on Wargame: Airland Battle, in order to provide it with the same support and follow-up we did for the first installment.

On the Marshals’ initiative, we have also decided to soon start a Dev Log where we will weekly answer some of the community’s questions. We will leave it to them to gather and compile the questions, from which we will pick 3 to be answered every week. Since they themselves have some “inside” knowledge, they may even be able to answer some questions without even needing to refer to us … This Dev Log should start soon.

Those players whom were offered a “Marshal’s Baton” have been selected for their involvement with the community, technical or historical knowledge, game skills and behavior, even if it meant being critical about us (as long as it was fairly and soundly done ;) ). They also have been selected to represent the widest array of nationalities, languages and clans, in order to get in touch with as many people as possible. You will be able to identify them through this signature added to their name:

Well, therefore they have the official forum - but I'm keeping you updated here as far as I can :)

Shifu, tell them we want the ability to make our own maps (it does not have to be easy to do).
ŊЏ | Shifu 15 stycznia 2013 o 8:16
Well, I doubt that map editor or mod tools will be released for WEE ... but be sure, there are people thinking like you and hosting topic over topic on the official forum (requesting mod tools/map editor for WEE/WAB - all you can think about - let's hope Eugen answers their prayers ^^)

So far, the marshals are testing/working on a new patch with Eugen - however, this patch will not completely change game mechanism or so, but change rather unit stats to improve balance and promote underused units - e.g. it's high probable that the Strela-10 gets the possibility to shoot while moving like the Grad will get HE buff :)
JamesCastle53562 15 stycznia 2013 o 8:35
I'd honestly rather have it somewhere down the road for WAB, since that is going to replace WEE for me. Its nice to know its not just me hoping for them)

AA being able to shoot while moving sounds like it could be great for escorting convoys. Can't wait, or maybe I'm dumb and some AA can already do that :P

Ye, agree with you - they shall now concentrate to get a nice successor and then give us all tools necessary :)
No, it will be the unique ability of the Strela-10 then ^^

hey Shifu, congrats on your promo to marshall. I'd like to see the ability to replay missions and sp because as u know playing this game is intense and u have to keep the map panned out so u miss alot of the good action. Being able to replay "all battles" will allow a player to go back and check out the great closer up action. I do play mp and save my replays for those games but I still play sp more because I need "practice". Thanx for your time,I know u guys will help make WAB even better than WEE!
ŊЏ | Shifu 16 stycznia 2013 o 13:36
Haha, thanks for your kind words :), though it wasn't really a promotion as I'm already moderator :p

Well, as it goes for replay, I doubt that they will include this for WEE - first, they will need to have to re-code stuff then (what they probably won't do - just for economic reasons) and secondly, I think they like the current system - maybe some explanation is necessary: replays can't be saved when the AI was participating (SP & MP alike) for the reason, that - afaik to save space - the replay is not really a video showing what happened, but more a script containing all necessary orders you gave to enable the AI to re-play your game - that's as well the reason why you need to watch the replay via Wargame - and somehow the AI can't re-play itself (hope I'm not mixing anything up here, and before you ask - i can't say you, why the AI can't re-play its moves, I don't know the code :))

I know that must be a bit disappointing for you, but unfortunately I don't know if that's a thing which is likely to be changed - I'll suggest it at the right time though :)

I'm sure this has already been mentioned but air strikes? Not only air strikes but certain infantry units that could call in better air strikes like the US Air Force Combat Control.

Also Medical units of some sort all the way from a simple medic team to Air Force Para Rescue.

I would also like to see some sort of command structure instead of just command vehicles. It would obviously cost more and possibly be the size of a FOB and could be deployed in towns. Some sort of mobile headquarters or something to simulate officers quarters and intelligence headquarters on the ground.

Older games would have one-time fly-overs where a recon plane would fly over and you could see a larger amount of enemy troops. Although their is already recon units in Wargame something like an AWAC or a U-2 spy plane could be cool. Or something like the ruse system in R.U.S.E. to include spies and decryption of enemy orders and dispositions.

Maybe I'm not making these suggestions in the right place but those are my suggestions. If I'm supposed to write this somewhere else please let me know who to get ahold of. Glad to see a game is actually asking its players to give some input!

How about countermeasures? Like giving high tier tanks the ability to deploy smoke when targeted by ATGM units. Smoke would be limited, tanks usually have about four smoke grenades onboard, and they would be able to resupply smoke through log units. And give this unit to choppers as well (flares). These are some suggestion for the Airland Battles game, since im sure EE cant be changed this darastically.
ŊЏ | Shifu 17 stycznia 2013 o 6:33
@Yogi: Well, airstrikes won't be implemented in WEE but in WAB - there won't be strategical drops and stuff like that (so no tank dropped by a plane :p). I don't know for all of your suggestions as they partly not fit in the game or its scale and I really don't get for what you want to have medical units - on a side-note here: I think it was somewhere announced that you can choose what "type" your supply vehicles should deliver, so e.g. only ammo or only fuel ... and as I just read about AWACS in your text, at least radar seems to be in WAB :)

@MockingBird: Yes, there will be smoke (which breaks the LoS) but I don't know how it will be implemented (only by arty, or on tanks as well) - and you're right, there won't be any big changes to WEE

I meant like, medical units for infantry mainly. A whole new idea would have to be in place here that I haven't quite expressed clearly and possibly won't be able to express it clear enough. I think a med-EVAC situation would have to be implimented in the game instead of just supply trucks healing infantry units. Of course for the tanks supply trucks is the best idea but medical units could be put in even just for the sake of realism. A med-EVAC Huey helicopter could carry in and out medic squads and wounded soldiers. So for this there may have to be some sort of "individual" aspect applied to the infantry. For example you would have the name of your platoon leaders all the way down to your private or AT LEAST a rank of an individual soldier, which would make it possible for the game to announce, for example that "1st squad leader 1st Sgt. W. Traumbly--major leg trauma.-- Needs evacuation". Further if you don't evacuate your wounded your infantry squads would move slower...... OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. Simply put, it would be that supply trucks could no longer replenish the HEALTH of infantry units. Could have something like a medic squad consisting of like two medic soldiers all the way to a med-EVAC Chinook or Huey. Since Wargame isn't really about building any buildings I'm just thinking units here now.

Ok, I think I get your point, but I think that wouldn't fit the scale of the game - though I agree, supply trucks bringing health is a bit strange :)
CaptainBadger 18 stycznia 2013 o 17:12
I think that the units in the game should be able to utilise all their features to the fullest. For example, Helo's could use their currently nonexistent flares and chaff to spoof missile locks, and tanks could pop smoke to cover a retreat or make them harder to hit due to limited visibility.

There would be counters to these though; AA units assisted by a radar vehicle of some kind would be able to triangulate an airborne chopper and, after a delayed lock on, could have a better chance of hitting the helicopter. For tanks, it would be the matter of quality vs. quantity all over again. What I meant is that you could call in six T-55's with the ability to pop smoke, but a single M1A2 Abrams (assuming we have access to it) with thermal sights would be able to see through the smoke and still hit the T-55's accurately while firing off its own smoke launchers to make itself harder to hit.

I think that additions like this would add a whole new dimension to the gameplay, and that it would really encourage players to use their heads when choosing units at the start of a game.

If these suggestions would have to wait till' AirLand battle to be implemented, then perhaps we could also incorporate a "classic mode" where you could play AirLand battle like W:EE but with the new environments.

This is all speculative, but many players rightfully consider W:EE to be one of the most realistice and enjoyable RTS's out there currently, I think that it would only add to these factors if units would be able to employ tactics and procedures that they were actually trained to do during the cold war, and you not having to micromanage all of it would just make it better.
