anyone remember tac ops? back in early ninties?
game was like this ,but without graphics, just had units in square tiles but they moved and cones of visibilityactaul unit facing, effective range radius, stuff that this game needs bad, to change the interface to a more intutive early warning system, alot of stuff just happens and you dont know why. I familiar only becuase ive played mil sims since the gate when we were using carboard cut outs with stat data printed on em. oh ya dont the fold out map!

Never played that one but I'm VERY familiar with the Cardboard counter/paper map type. In those games, you had much better intel because, unless you were playing a referreed, double blind game, you could always see where counters were. Even if there were dummy units and units were turned over until spotted, you usually had an idea where stuff was. This is very different! You don't see anything until you see it. Sometimes even if it shoots at you. Recon units are an absolute necessity imo. The better placed and more widely spread and backed up they are, the less you will face nasty surprises that will cost you lives and equipment.

The game that I was getting into before W:EE was an almost idealized version of the old style games. It's called SP:WaW or SP:MBT (WW2 and Modern versions) and much of it works like the old style stuff. It's turn based, has an optional hex grid and the limited intel works much better than the physical kind. I really like that one but W:EE is an even bigger challenge because it's not turn based.

yep, awesome game , last of the mohikens STEEL PANTHERS, now that had off map artillery, and air strikes, exellent visibility rules for what it is. which is exactly what this game is missing. and it does need a puase to intermit orders.....badly!
