Helicopters
So I'm sure you guys have mentioned this in a previous post but I don't care, I'm asking...

Is there a way to keep your helicopters IN THE AIR AT ALL TIMES? Seems like as soon as I move them somewhere they are on the ground, not moving, not doing their ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ jobs and getting my units destroyed. I've almost given up on recon and attack helicopters because of this and I haven't figured it out. From the looks of it there is no way, but I'm hoping that someone out there knows the answer to this really dumb thing. I'd say that if there isn't a fix, that this helicopter thing is the worst "thing" about this game, by far. It's just rediculous that a recon chopper would just sit down in the middle of a field waiting to be ambushed while I'm off managing my huge army. I can't baby-sit these stupid ♥♥♥♥♥ every ten seconds. **Angry**

Aside from this helicopter thing, I've been having a great time with this game. I spent about five hours on the third mission and about four hours on the fourth mission just having a good time and really dominating the map. I love the idea of a "working" military group with active supply lines re-arming my front line. Artillery softening objectives before a strike. I mean, I play a lot of RUSE, but it's nothing compared to the depth and richness W:EE has to offer. So long real world, I could spend months inside the world of W:EE.
Well, there's unutterably no fix (which is announced for WAB), but you will learn over time to send your choppers always to hedge-rows, houses or forrest where they stay in the air ^^
tell your helos to go over hedges, trees, or houses, they wont land then
Yeah I sent them over rivers and what-not but the hedge rows seemed like still made them land. Oh well. Thanks for filling me in though.

As already mentioned, make it a rule to fly over hedges, forests and buildings. Pressing Z or clicking Change Alt will make them hover high indefinitely, but as soon as you give a new move order, it will hover low again.
I think Eugen did this to simulate the way chopper pilots back then were trained to avoid hovering at high altitudes so they wouldn't remain vulnerable to missle and AAA fire. They often used N.O.E. and contour flying exclusively when they were in an area with a suspected OPFOR presence. Glad they intend to fix this in ALB but it would be nicer if they fixed it here in W:EE too.

I don't think so. There was no statement regarding this, and ultimately it's about being able to better control your army, and defaulting to a position where your helicopters can't see/engage is a bad idea. If you want to play it safe, it should be your choice.
I don't know if you have noticed or not, but your helo's don't actually land, they hover slightly above the ground so that they can move rapidly. I actually like this feature as it prevents your choppers from getting shot down by long range AAA while you're off managing your "Huge army". If you find this frustrating however, then try hovering them above any object that will provide cover (Hedges, forests, buildings, etc. etc.) save for swamps and they should stay at max altitude, but this will open them up for a long-range AAA kill by the OPFOR.
This might sound like a stupid suggestion, but have you tried the change altitude button on the HUD options of the chopper?
When the chopper lands, click on it and press change altitude. It will usually hover there until you move it again, but it does use up fuel while its hovering.
Yeah I've tried clicking change altitude button but I guess I'm just doing something wrong. I have seen them land with their rotters NOT moving but I'll keep trying. Maybe I am doing something wrong.
best of luck then
For me change altitude helps and it does not use fuel, also put them on the floor behind a forest of low altitude palace to ambush.
Seems like they use an insigificant amount of fuel in the scheme of things. Not enough to stress about but still, they use fuel.
I was attacking the enemy, then my helicopters landed in the middle of a field after destroying some tanks and got swarmed by VAB's.
