I'm really glad I picked this up.
I've been a fan of RTS games since the good old days of Westwood Studios C&C series back on DOS. I would also like to consider this game as a spritiual successor to World in Conflict. The only main gripe I have with this type of simulator is I wish the units were a bit faster ( a small gripe I know).

I hope other fans of this genre pick it up if they get the chance and for those who are on the fence; please check out some lets play videos on You Tube and see if this is your cup of tea.

The units are really fast. I think you'll get used to the speed after a short while, just try to avoid laggy multiplayer games as the game slows down quite a bit.

On roads, all tracked vehicles move the same speed (around 110 km/h if I remember correctly), and all wheeled vehicles move at the same speed (around 150 km/h). Off-road, their unit statistic tells you how fast they go.

the move fast feature is the best to use mate if u want speed as Chris states they travel on the roads so ya got alot faster. The game is superior and high adicitve!

I picked this up, along with the witcher 1 & 2, and torchlight 2 during the steam sale this weekend. I could've lived without the witcher games, but TL2, and this are really good. TL2, I knew what to expect, this game though caught me completely by surprise.

I like RTS games, but don't love them, I like the single player story modes, and multiplayer is a completely different animal. The resource gathering is tiresome, then in multiplayer, you get that person who rushes you early and destroys all your gathering units, and you're spending the entire game behind...strategy I know.

Then I found Warhammer Dawn of war, where I saw the idea of controlling strategic points in action and found it to be much more fun and strategic.

This game playing on that idea is great!

I'm only on the 4th mission or so, and seeing all the units opening up after each one is really cool...i love seeing the new toys to make things go boom with.

The AI is hard, which is good and bad. I like the challenge, but don't want to get frustrated, I would like to be able to play the SP mode, enjoy the challenge, but also be able to get through it. Like the old RTS titles C&C and SC, some missions will take a few play throughs to find the strategy that works and that is what I like most about this game, the feel they gave it. I actually feel like I'm in a command center relaying mission information to the troops on the ground (a position I'd probably rather enjoy had I joined the military years ago). I have to check the controls to see if there is a way to rotate the map, the one view is nice, but seeing the field from different angles allows us to better plan an attack and look for flanking avenues.

Hold middle mouse and move around. WASD is good to get used to for map movement so you don't have to drag the mouse to the edge of the screen.

Right-click the game in your Steam library and open the manual and bring your laptop with you! Or your stationary if you wish...

I am in the same camp... I have put off buying this for so long due to some of the negative comments and I can't believe that I did that. I love this game and am thoroughly impressed. It is definitely the thinking man's RTS.

i have been using this game to practice sun tzus tactics, along with those of some other generals. its fascinating to me what works and what doesnt though i will say implying the art of war def. seems to be the way to go. i also find warhammer 40000 to be incredible and addictive, i am stuck on it right now but when i am done, this is where i am coming.

I do pray you have Clausewitz in that list of "some other generals".

But yeah, this game is fantastic.

Whoa never thought of applying real world tactics (atleast of that magnitude) to an RTS before... You just made think of replaying every RTS I own lol.

Just a side note, when you use the "Move Fast" command, your units will take roads (whenever available). Sometimes, the roads the unit will take will run dangerously close to an enemy zone or an active battle. Just be aware of that. I've lost units (mostly supply trucks), because I didn't realize they would be moving through enemy ground.
Zhang Xin 3 stycznia 2013 o 23:23
The game is not slow. Sometimes the battle changes so fast that you can't give enough orders you want. You can't just call some reinforcements to rush to the place to solve bad situations. That kind of 'slow' is something called strategy.

Hey-o I'm back, and yes I was aware of the move fast option, guess I should have stated that in my post. The speed I guess is more of a perspective point of view. like I said this is my opinion and not to take anything away from the game.

Another thing that I hope to be added in the next game is unit formations and a way to click-hold a units facing (tank gets flanked from the side just re-face it so incoming shots would still come towards the front) and a move backwards command, unless these are already in the game and I haven't found the command for them yet.

After playing this for a bit, I want to find my World in Conflict disk. Another underrated game that I mentioned before.

You can adjust facing by giving sequenced command using Shift.
I think the developers do not want players to do much micro managements.
