On roads, all tracked vehicles move the same speed (around 110 km/h if I remember correctly), and all wheeled vehicles move at the same speed (around 150 km/h). Off-road, their unit statistic tells you how fast they go.
I like RTS games, but don't love them, I like the single player story modes, and multiplayer is a completely different animal. The resource gathering is tiresome, then in multiplayer, you get that person who rushes you early and destroys all your gathering units, and you're spending the entire game behind...strategy I know.
Then I found Warhammer Dawn of war, where I saw the idea of controlling strategic points in action and found it to be much more fun and strategic.
This game playing on that idea is great!
I'm only on the 4th mission or so, and seeing all the units opening up after each one is really cool...i love seeing the new toys to make things go boom with.
The AI is hard, which is good and bad. I like the challenge, but don't want to get frustrated, I would like to be able to play the SP mode, enjoy the challenge, but also be able to get through it. Like the old RTS titles C&C and SC, some missions will take a few play throughs to find the strategy that works and that is what I like most about this game, the feel they gave it. I actually feel like I'm in a command center relaying mission information to the troops on the ground (a position I'd probably rather enjoy had I joined the military years ago). I have to check the controls to see if there is a way to rotate the map, the one view is nice, but seeing the field from different angles allows us to better plan an attack and look for flanking avenues.
Hold middle mouse and move around. WASD is good to get used to for map movement so you don't have to drag the mouse to the edge of the screen.
yeah, i've been using wasd, thanks for this heads up!!! this is what i absolutely hate about buying games in digital form....no instruction book to read while i'm droppin a duece.
Right-click the game in your Steam library and open the manual and bring your laptop with you! Or your stationary if you wish...
I do pray you have Clausewitz in that list of "some other generals".
But yeah, this game is fantastic.
Whoa never thought of applying real world tactics (atleast of that magnitude) to an RTS before... You just made think of replaying every RTS I own lol.
Another thing that I hope to be added in the next game is unit formations and a way to click-hold a units facing (tank gets flanked from the side just re-face it so incoming shots would still come towards the front) and a move backwards command, unless these are already in the game and I haven't found the command for them yet.
After playing this for a bit, I want to find my World in Conflict disk. Another underrated game that I mentioned before.
You can adjust facing by giving sequenced command using Shift.
I think the developers do not want players to do much micro managements.
