Time for reflection?
Do you have to think on your feet in this game, or can you pause, reflect or slow it down? I generally prefer turn-based to RTS nowadays because things happen too quickly for old gits like me in real time. But this game does look intriguing.

In the solo campaign, you get a chance to catch your breath in most missions. The action is trypically predicated on when you push the action. However, there are some missions that the enemy comes at you fast and furious, but there is almost always a chance to review the battlefield and get your bearings.

This is definitely not a turn based game, and the learning curve is very steep, but if you like strategic games, this is a great one!

It really is a great game, but it is somewhat fast paced. Sometimes in multiplayer you may have a break to catch up and organize, but very often I find it hard to command all of my untis at the same time in an orderly way. The same creators are making a new game called Wargame: Airland Battle in march 2013, and I think they will fix some of the problems with controling your units.

Multiplayer certainly is fast-paced with few moments to rest. It is NOTHING like Starcraft though. You can play the game zoomed out or in; positioning and strategy is more important than high APM. If you do get this game, make sure to play the lower point games in multiplayer so you don't have to control hundreds of units. No more than 1500 points per player.

Like others have said, it does have a steep learning curve, but is also very rewarding!

I'm an oldhead too, and in all honesty, it isn't all that bad in terms of speed of game. You always have time at the beginning of a mission to start your command and to set units. The idea is to move ahead SLOWLY. I don't think that after playing the game for awhile that the speed of the game is really all that fast. A few missions, after setting command, the enemy does come knocking pretty quickly, but in all honesty, there is plenty of time to rally yourself and catch a breath or two. My advice is go for it. It's a fantastic game with superb units and gameplay.

Yes Johnny, this "old duff" has an anxiety attack everytime I play on MP,Its fast but if your into modern military S & T then this game is worth the learning curve. This game has definitely improved my computer skills. SP missions can get hectic also but you can pause to take a deep breathe and then get back at it. I play alot of "realistic" RTS games (i.e. Total War games) but this one is becoming my favorite. I say buy it,you'll probably luv it.

Thanks for all the replies. I obviously didn't make up my mind in time on this occasion. But it'll be on sale again soon enough I suppose. It sounds like multiplayer might be hectic. I usually avoid multiplayer in strategy games for this reason. Even Civ V as it's not the same as in SP.
I like the Total War games too, Jodell, allthough more the turnbased campaign element than the RTS. I really need to get into Shogun 2. It seems great but I've not played through a campaign yet. Crusader Kings 2 is another game I need to complete a campaign on.

It's still 50% off, but it might come on another Community choice or Flash sale at 75%. It seems unlikely though as it has been on a daily deal, flash sale and has failed to win a community vote so far.

Johnny, you should get this game. I mostly play turn based strategy and grand strategy games, but this is different than most RTS games. It requires a lot of strategy and its really rewarding. Unlike most RTS, you cant really spam an infinite amount of X units and then rush. If you could though, it would probably be a bad idea. A good defense will pick everything off from a distance. In most SP missions you will have enough time to build up properly and gain ground, but a handful of missions will require you to think, and think fast. I've also had some MP games, and I must say that i liked it. even if some dudes tried to play it fast and rush, i had a proper defense that held up. If you can withstand the first wave of attack, then you have the upper hand until he can prepare for a 2nd wave.
