Is it wrong I hate the idea of needing to invest time for unit variety which should naturally be available?
I mean, I can't help but feel it's so contrived that the mechanic must be strategy creeping out from a desire to addict/entice the consumer...forcing them to play for the next level to have complete features, culminating the experience, or feel elated from doing so to enjoy playing more from these 'achievements' as advancement.

I mean, whilst I understand unlocking a new mode or unique feature as it once was, it seems there's a trend of taking this to a basic level in which we must play to earn an otherwise fully immersive experience of many options.

The campaign is a tutorial. You NEED that tutorial, because you are going to get your azz kicked in multiplayer every match. You are going to suk soooo hard if you don't know how to use some minor unit.
As a fact, most units I use are from the very first ones, and I have not even finished all the campaign. I do ok.
The way it is made is so you can learn every aspect of each unit completely on your own at your own pace. It is just a couple of hours.

I agree with idea that you shouldn't have to invest time in order to unlock content that you've paid for. When it comes to the campaign, I think it's perfectly fine to not have the availability of all units for each mission. I don't think the campaign is great, but certainly see it fitting to gradually introduce units.

The question for me begins with skirmish against the AI and in multiplayer. It is what you say, a construct to addict/entice the player to keep unlocking and exploring the units.

Yeah I didnt realise that anti tank rockets require the unit to remain stationary and not moving during the rocket flight to hit the target :( until i played solo

The campaign is amazing and you should play it anyway, the unit unlock mechanic is a core part of the campaign.

The campaign will not teach you how to play. There is tones of informational content on how to play and tones of show matches (including Wargame Cup) showing how the game is played. The only value to the campaign (for me) is that a lot of the units you unlock during it are very valuable in multiplayer.
