Love the game but.......
I do enjoy the difficulty of this game, but there are a few points I would simply like to discuss. I do understand there needs to be a balance in the game and I understand that at times realism has to give way to game play. That being said, here we go:

I have run into a few issues that I do not know if they can be resolved but are frusting such as:

1. I will send helicopters on an intercept course but it seems they do not attack even after they are being shot up by either ground or other air assets. This is frustrating especially since i am working an entire battlefield. Then there are the times I tell the air units to move and they hesitate and are destroyed. We are talking like a 2 second hesitation.

2. I seem to be seeing what I feel is a diparity when playing the AI when it comes to the defensive capabilities of AI units, it just seems that the AI units can handle a whole lot more damage (or are bettter at shots on target?). I mean seriously, a zsu taking multiple shots from a tank and still able to destroy an entire tank section?

3. 6 vulcan aa cannon versus 2 Hi-24 and unable to down even 1 Hind?

Maybe my impression/knowledge of the Pact forces capabilities and defensive strengths is way off or is it simply by design to make the game a challenge? Again, I like the difficulty until I get to the point that no matter what tactics I use, the Pact seems to rooll right over all my units.

Another issue is the M110. They have it listed as no direct fire capability. That is simply not true. They did have that capability and we trained just for such an eventuality [showing my age now....yes I was a red leg, gun bunny, or whatever u want to call it now]. Granted, the guns do not load that fast but at least 1 round would have gotten off and those 8 inch round would have at least shook up the target if it hit a tank, any light armour would have been toast from the concussion.

Just saying.......

The game is pretty kool, but I can see where more realistic capabilities would be nice. Also would love to see more later years combat say right before the Pact fell apart.

1. If you want your units to stop and engage the enemy when he's in range, use the Attack button/hotkey. The hesitation is probably due to your choppers slowing down, turning around and speeding up? (This said, I don't like my choppers AI either :p)
2. Hm, not that I know, the AI cheats for sure (unlimited ammo, fuel, units, money, it knows position of every unit etc.) - I guess I need to know more about the situation to say more here :)
3. Hind's have bulletproof armor (armor value less than 1, often refered to "Magical Armor" or "Invisible Armor"), that explains them being resistent against low calibers - I haven't tried 6 vulcans vs 2 hinds, but vulcans are more stunners than real killers

Pact and Nato are actually quite balanced (human vs human), but the AI loves to steam roll you :p
For m110: I got no idea, but there are many things not like in reality (look at t-80 models, they're wrong :p, mg on jeeps can't shoot even though displayed iirc)

Shifu, thanks....guess i really just needed to let off steam [no pun intended]

The vulcans should be using depleted uranium rounds, that is what they were designed...which would cut through ahind like butter, but it is what it is I guess :]

the only problem i have with the game is you only get to deploy 16 M1 tanks 8 M1s 4 M1IPs and 4 M1A1s no sign of any M1A1 HA added or even the M1A2 i know it is a bit advanced but it would help even the odds against a host of T80s

BTW use PIVADS they make hinds into swiss cheese

You need to micro units. Like your helo's your mistake is that your using them to attack. When you should pretty much always use them on defence. You should never tell them "attack move" they will die. If you arnt using enough recon you can run into ambushes all over, or be flanked. You being in the service, should remember the four "F's" Find, Fix, Flank, Finish. The first is Find. Recon. If you can't see the enemy you can kill him. Also. Vulcans have short range, there for are great for wood lines or when range isnt needed. M110's are awesome, would be nice if they had direct fire. Oh well.
To Jamie's comment. You should never pit M1's head on vs T80's in most circumstances. Unless your sure you can kill them with a flanking unit and quick. Use ATGM's I'll throw a vet or two on ATGM units to give em that little extra. but vetting or leveling units isnt exactly wise. Just a few units can be really nice with an extra level or two. Um. I guess these are just a few small pointers. The game is fantastic. And with nearly 800 hours "duty time" i'll tell you the game has almost always been extreemly balanced. and with all the patches and fixes. its only gotten more balanced. a good tried and tested tactic is to charge T80s head on as the abrams has an excellent stabelizer
