You need to start developing your economy. Try to break from the monopoly of omincorp. Develop other areas and start trading with yourself. The world is enviromnent specific, so develop arable lands and trade food for higher end goods in more rugged terrain. This is more a barter system than capitalist.

More people may mean more money, but they need jobs and places to shop. Where are these goods coming from? If you have started farming then they need to process their raw goods. In arable lands don't overpopulate. Overpopulate in more humid cimates because you can exploit tourism. Trade water from fresh water maps with arid maps. Trade oil with large scale cities.

That's perhaps the abstract, and most interesting, part of the game, that you are essentially trying to develop the world for your villages, towns and cities. So, try and create surplusses that you can trade with yourself, rather than having to pay the monopoly prices of Omicorp.
