Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA Localization Update
Hello everyone,

My name is Alan Costa and I’m a Senior Associate Producer here at NIS America.
I'm heading up the Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA revision project directly under our president, Mr. Takuro Yamashita.

I’ve started this blog series to keep you all apprised of our progress for the revision and plan to make this a weekly update.

So, what exactly are we doing with this revision? Well, as NISA President Mr. Yamashita mentioned in his message, we are addressing the localization of Ys VIII from the ground up including the below:
  • Reviewing and revising the translation with a new translator
  • A complete re-edit of the script (voiced and unvoiced) as well as corrections to item names and descriptions with a new editor
  • Voice re-recording
  • Debugging the new build
We also intend to incorporate external feedback and I’ll be sharing more details on what exactly that entails in a later update.

This is going to come as no surprise to many of you, but after beginning this revision, we have realized that due to the scope of this undertaking, we will unfortunately not be able to release by the end of this month as we had originally intended.

I don't want to throw out a hard date then have to backtrack again, but, barring any unforeseen issues, we are currently looking to get this out early next year.

On that note, as we want this version to be the definitive release of the title, we will be holding the PC version back to coincide this release as well.
While this does constitute a further delay of the PC version, please rest assured that this time will be used to further optimize the game.

Please feel free to comment on this thread if you have any additional questions and we'll be sure to get back to you as soon as possible. Thank you so much for reading and please look forward to another update next week!

Alan

Sorry to say this (not really) but this is what you get when you don't have xseed doing the localization for a nihon falcom game...

I think we need more people repeating this everywhere in the discussions all the time.

(sarcasm - we all know)

Nah, we need more people defending NISA. I mean, come on guys, they didn't do anything WRONG, they were just joking with their first translation. Yeah, that translation was just a BETA TEST.

I hope you're not implying I'm defending NISA.......

If only Ys VIII was a simple delay. They actually released it on the PS4 hoping nobody would notice or care, and then they get caught and are only doing something about it because even Japanese were talking about it.

Why couldn't they have figured out about the terrible localization after the PC port was released. Now we PC users are cucked because we have to wait for the new localization to be implemented despite the possibility that the optimization issues have been fixed.

You keep repeating you're worried about the re-loc delaying the PC release further, but there's zero evidence of this. Even NISA has said above they are still working on performance issues.

If you care so little about the loc then just play the PS4 version.

^^^^-- From Dec 21st

Also, if Durante is indeed helping them out in any significant way he has likely been too busy with Cold Steel 2 to do much with Ys VIII, meaning again I'm doubting the re-loc is really delaying the PC release any at this point.

That's precisely why I said it was a possiblity in the first place, but it would be true if that were the case; and by saying further optimizing the game, it's not fixing the prominent issues but more like refining and polishing the port.

I would gladly play the PS4 version had I the console.

Happy New Year everyone!

We hope you all had a nice and relaxing New Year with your friends and family.

Debug is ongoing and we are now in our second build. Since our last blog post, we have received a new build with 95% of the text implemented plus all of the new audio from the voice re-recording.

Debug is going very smoothly and there are no crash or freeze bugs reported! Knock on wood! In light of that, our next build should be very close to complete with the text and audio bugs squashed!

And because we have a more complete build compared to last time, we can show off another scene! Today, we will see Dana in her first appearance in-game as she kicks-off the Arboreal Awakening. As with the previous video, while this is still fairly early in the game, there are still minor spoilers, so please proceed with caution!

Enjoy the rest of your week and we’ll talk to you again soon!

Alan

Terrible service, just ordered a refund. Totally not worth it with the crap.

Buy when it's already released. It's easily one of the best action JRPG's of this generation.

It could've be, if only it weren't handled by NISA.

I've kept my pre-order up because they released on GOG as well. I'm hoping that, with us offering them less flack than the Steam users, it might inspire NIS America to release their other games there as well.

I'd rebuy them all if they did.

If this had been a Steam exclusive I probably wouldn't have bought it until next Winter Sale. I'm a bit more forgiving of other games, but a Falcom title, with them actively supporting GOG across every localization team they've used, I've come to expect releases from my favorite developer to show up on my f avorite store.

Now for Tokyo Xanadu eX+ to come to GOG, which Aksys has said they're working on making their firsst GOG release even though it will be delayed there, so I can complete my Falcom PC collection...

I guess you haven't bothered to pay attention to anything that goes on here at all. They said sometime Q1 2018, which is intentionally vague so they don't have to delay it again.

Them rushing the first time without a reasonable schedule was what caused this in the first place.

What good is it going to do for them to push out another release date now and then have to rush to make it only to produce a terrible product again?

Either way Q1 ends on March 31st, so they are trying to get it out before then obviously.
