small maps mean small player count so you dont have to wait long to get into a game
surprisingly dumb fun... no b*llsh*t unlocks for guns so even if you are level 5 against a level 40 you can win, it's all about learning the maps and learning the guns
plus the DUKE NUKEM one liners for multiplayer are hilarious and varied.
And...get the DLC package. Reason is if the server is on game rotation and you don't have the DLC's you will get kicked off the game and the DLC maps are cool. The single player DLC is good as well.
And since it's based off the old unreal engine it's very ping sensitive. So lower the ping the better you are and if players have high ping the game lags a lot. Most often the game hoster can kill you before you can move and react. They can get a bunch of shots in before you see it.
Private games generate no leveling or points. Public do. The game challenges take FORVER (no pun intended) to complete. You have to do a challenge game with friends to get them or play for over 1,000 hours to get them all. Some challenges are next to impossible to get unless staged with another player.
