This is an excellent tactical game, much better than it's reputation. In fact I would argue that, while flawed, this is one of the best tactical engines ever made. This game also feels like a "real Jagged alliance", and this comes from someone who played the originals when they were first released.
Unfortunately a lot of JA fans who have their heads stuck on that is "has to be turn-based" in order to be a "real JA" whined like little girls about this wonderful engine being pausable real time. That earned the game a bad rep and it didn't sell well. Too bad because that meant we never got a proper sequel and a sequel to this game would have been amazing. The irony is that if it had not been a JA game it would have been hailed as one of the great tactical games ever, but instead we got narrow-minded whining and the developers gave up on the engine.
It's not perfect, there are flaws and annoying details, that's why my heart bleeds that we'll never see a proper sequel, but that does not change the fact that this is one of the most detailed and innovative hybrid tactical games ever.
Still recommended today in 2015, the graphics are a bit dated now of course, but it's an intensely enjoyable game and there are some good mods to make it better (it's also really easy to adjust things yourself by editing text files).
Highly recommended. At the time of this writing I have 530 hours sunk into this game.
If you like this kind of game, don't miss JABIA just because of whiney old-school fans who can't see beyond "turn based".
