Who's That Flying?!

Statistiken ansehen:
Difficulty is a problem.
Some may disagree, that the harder a game is.. the sweeter the victory.
I for one, think that is elitist bunk. There's a trend in Arcade games lately to be completely unforgiving and almost cruel to the player, until they put in hundreds of hours to perfect the minute muscle reflexes needed to play.

Just recently purchased "Who's That Flying?!: WTF" and after playing for nearly an hour, and losing at a rate of 5:1 or more, I have to ask: Arcade games have always had a learning curve, but typically they set you up to be better suited to face more difficult levels and enemies by making the game start simply and progress. This game, and many other titles out there today.. begin punishing the p;ayer from the moment the game begins. The controls are't intuitive at all, in fact they're downright puzzling. Perhaps this game would play better on a console or with a gamepad? But other games are among this trend as well. Super Meat Boy starts out pretty slow, but then ratchets the difficulty up to 11 before you even get to the first boss - which is a few notches up from that. They Bleed Pixels too continuously punishes the player, with the "easier" levels typically being cleared with close to 50 deaths apiece.

Challenge modes and hard modes are for those that crave this kind of sodomy. Perhaps consider making something fun... that rewards you for playing, rather than punishes. Something.. just a tiny bit easier. Give the nuance of skill a better meaning than "Is able to play the game". Just a suggestion.

I think you're missing the point of "difficult" games. If the game is difficult and you manage the complete a level, that is the reward.

Shoot em up type of games like WTF are not made to be easy and they never have been. Games like WTF, Gundemonium Collection, eXceed, Sine Mora etc. are designed to be brutal games, that's just the genre. Once you learn the mechanics of the game you'll be surprised at how easy some levels become.

I wish more difficult games existed because I'm tired of seeing games made to be so damn easy because they're being made with the "casual" gamer in mind. Casual gamers is the reason why games in general have become dumbed down and are getting easier and easier so it covers more people to sell the games to.
I think WTF is not a difficult game.
I managed to complete 50% of the story mode with no unbearable frustration at all.
In WTF you have extremely powerful weapons; since you cannot use your mouse, you just need to anticipate the waves and know where the critical points are located especially with the bosses and you should do fine.
The Gundemonium Collection is far more hard to deal with and what about all the Ikaruga clones?

On another aspect I agree that a gamepad could be quite handy and/or an console version would be more than welcome, it would definitely be very enjoyable on a big screen.

Don't know if all games should be designed for "hardcore gamers" though, there should always be different levels of difficulty made available without neglecting the fact that a game should always include a taste for challenge.

Just beat this in one sitting, I honestly don't think its hard. Might be a little tricky for some people until you get the enemy patterns down, I would suggest using a controller if you want an easier time.
Its not a hard game atleast if youre not interested in all the achievements, getting 50/50 health per level is pretty challenging, but you dont need to do that to complete the game.

Go back and try R-Type, or Gradius, or Icaruga.
I got a perfect on the first level on my first try. This one doesn't seem that hard.
Is there a timer on the big boss? I seem to die for no reason. The game was challenging but fun!
At least for the 3rd boss there is a timer. By now I can't figure out how to beat him in that time limit...
Hi Luga,
Did you manage beating that 3rd boss?
I do recommend a control pad.

I used an X-Box controller, that makes the game much easier. I guess, I started with the controller.

That having been said WTF isn't that hard.

The main game is pretty forgiving once you figure out how to use your super moves and challenge mode only has 2 really difficult ones which are far less so once you figure out the trick.

Best of luck man, keep at it and you'll be fine.
Luga, if you are talking about the boss in Mexico, I wrote a guide for it, its under challenge mode 14. You can trounce the boss pretty quick. It is just a little counter-intuitive.
Thanks for the comments, all. I still hold that the challenge of difficult games is a sweeter victory, but it can be a grab bag. I'm not going to whinge on about a game being so hard, but it IS hard to gauge gameplay from trailers and stills and write-ups. What sounds like a fun game turning out to be bullet-hell madness can be frustrating, because I don't just quit - but feel compelled to pour hours into trying to figure it out.

It's easy to pin "casual" and "hardcore" onto people, and make this into an "Us vs. Them" thing.. but we're all gamers. Whatever natural skill people have, they have. Some people are more suited to frenetic twitch-shooterr type games. Some aren't geared for that. I probably won't pick up a game that offers a challenge I can't meet in several hours/attempts right out of the start gate, and I think that's fair because the rewards for doing so are pretty feeble. Anyway, I appreciate the discourse and enjoyed what you all had to say. Game on, friends.
help how to put in the game 1360x768?

The game is not so hard. Getting 100% may be challenging though.
