Shoot em up type of games like WTF are not made to be easy and they never have been. Games like WTF, Gundemonium Collection, eXceed, Sine Mora etc. are designed to be brutal games, that's just the genre. Once you learn the mechanics of the game you'll be surprised at how easy some levels become.
I wish more difficult games existed because I'm tired of seeing games made to be so damn easy because they're being made with the "casual" gamer in mind. Casual gamers is the reason why games in general have become dumbed down and are getting easier and easier so it covers more people to sell the games to.
I managed to complete 50% of the story mode with no unbearable frustration at all.
In WTF you have extremely powerful weapons; since you cannot use your mouse, you just need to anticipate the waves and know where the critical points are located especially with the bosses and you should do fine.
The Gundemonium Collection is far more hard to deal with and what about all the Ikaruga clones?
On another aspect I agree that a gamepad could be quite handy and/or an console version would be more than welcome, it would definitely be very enjoyable on a big screen.
Don't know if all games should be designed for "hardcore gamers" though, there should always be different levels of difficulty made available without neglecting the fact that a game should always include a taste for challenge.
Did you manage beating that 3rd boss?
I used an X-Box controller, that makes the game much easier. I guess, I started with the controller.
That having been said WTF isn't that hard.
The main game is pretty forgiving once you figure out how to use your super moves and challenge mode only has 2 really difficult ones which are far less so once you figure out the trick.
Best of luck man, keep at it and you'll be fine.
It's easy to pin "casual" and "hardcore" onto people, and make this into an "Us vs. Them" thing.. but we're all gamers. Whatever natural skill people have, they have. Some people are more suited to frenetic twitch-shooterr type games. Some aren't geared for that. I probably won't pick up a game that offers a challenge I can't meet in several hours/attempts right out of the start gate, and I think that's fair because the rewards for doing so are pretty feeble. Anyway, I appreciate the discourse and enjoyed what you all had to say. Game on, friends.
