I can not load my savegame
Steam did some sort of update today when I tried to run Tropico 4. Now, I can no longer load any of my savegames because it says I don't have DLC required to play the game. What gives?

edit : I see that others are having issues also after the recent update. If they have decided that content that I received from Steam during the previous steam sale is now DLC, that seriously sucks and I would like a prompt refund! Can anyone confirm exactly what is going on here?

I really don't care who's fault it is at this point, I am very unhappy with steam support, and I want a refund for Tropico 4. I have opened a steam support account and requested a refund.

Steam has beyond zero to do with any of these problems.

Tropico devs and Kalypso uploaded a half-♥♥♥ patch to Steam to add a last minute cash-grab DLC to Tropico 4.

They then take about a month and half to issue an update correcting the issue.

Then that update as well does absolutely nothing, and they stay silent.

Being mad at Steam and demanding a refund would be like blaming Google Docs because you made a document filled with spelling errors, ignored the spell check, and then it didn't magically fix itself when you sent it to your boss.

Steam's doing their job, they're taking your payments, sending Kalypso their cut, and allowing you to download and access the files Kalypso sold you. So they're done with their part.

Thank you so much for your reply, iconchrono. I have considered the points you made and it doesn't change my mind regarding a refund. Mind you, the money is not the issue for me, sending a loud and clear message is. The facts are : I payed for a game on steam. Steam automatically updated my game. Now my save game is ruined because of this update. I never dealt with Kalypso. Any agreements that exist between Steam and Kalypso is their business. I am unhappy with the way this whole DLC thing is being handled and I want nothing to do with it in the future. I want a refund. I am not mad. I want them to stand behind a product they sold me.

I'm having the same problem. Between this and problems with Heroes of Might and Magic I have to wonder if Steam is living up to it's responsibility as the vendor/provider of these games.

Yeah, what the hell gives?

the same here. This morning I wasn t able to load my saved game and tonight I cannot launch the game at all. Just asked for a refund...

I have stated before that I have absolutely no patience regarding this issue with DLC and the latest savegame breaking update. I am beginning to think that filing a complaint with paypal and requesting a refund from them might be a good idea. That might also pressure Steam into paying a little bit better attention into EXACTLY what they put on your computer. if enough people complain to paypal.
mapichka Sep 10, 2013 @ 7:07pm
I did not use paypal to buy the game, I used my credit card. I asked Kalypso customer service for the refund. Am I right?
Otis Sep 10, 2013 @ 7:10pm
I don't see how it's Kalypso's responsibility when the game was purchased from Steam, and money was taken by Steam. I would also think that your credit card company would have avenues for disputing purchases.

Thank you for the answer.
ok I understand. I will see what Kalypso have to say regarding my request. I just sent them an email.
Minnlinz Sep 10, 2013 @ 7:53pm
Kalypso is responsible because they developed the game, Steam is only responsible for server use and crashes. Kalypso added a coding to their game that makes older versions require it even if nothing in the game is part of the DLC. basically holding the game for ransom wich is an illegal marketing move.

Just adding in another incident, all of my saves are corrupted saying "I don't have the needed DLC"...

They suck, this is their reply:
"there was an Steam issue which was allowing you to play the Modern Times DLC although you didn't bought it. We have fixed this issue. The problem is that your savegames contains the Modern Times buildings and if you want to play your savegames you have to buy the DLC.

We apologize for the inconvenience."

so after buying an original game, losing all my progress, time and whatever, they want more money?!
