Perhaps nostaliga is making my opinion is somewhat biased, but I preferred the original. The graphical update is nice, but - and here's where I might be biased - I prefer how it used to look. This being said, I've not played the original in a long time, so I may be entirely wrong about that - they may look almost identical. This doesn't really matter too much - the graphics are good enough to not be a hinderance.
The UI however - and general control of the game - has been changed. As the game was developed for the wii/ds, certain click/drag puzzles (such as sliding puzzles, or puzzles that need precision clicking) don't work as well with a mouse. While you could quite quickly press the inventory button and drag the item to whatever it needs to be used on, having to move the mouse to do this feels a little clunky - and this is the reason why I can't recommend this game.
In the original, there were a number of places where your character could die, but (I assume at the request of Nintendo) they've been removed. The story addition is nice, but nothing spectacular - just giving a little bit more information as to characters.
This version of the game is far easier (aside from death being impossible), the game will highlight usable objects around your mouse, and also includes a hint system. I personally don't have an issue with either of them, but in some sense it does remove needing to 'find' the items, which some may not like.
TL;DR - I would say get the original, if you enjoy it, play this.
