GFWL Shutting down next year on the first of july.
What happens to Batman: Arkham City? Does that mean we have a game we can not even play anymore?

I thought it was just the market place shutting down, not the actual client software and its servers.

The game is fully playable, even with GfWL set to an offline mode. That being said, the rumors are flying that this game, BioShock 2 and Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet are moving to full Steamworks.

"The game is fully playable, even with GfWL set to an offline mode."

I'm sure that is true but I bet you can't activate the game from install and play it with no GFWL servers. Hopefully all these GFWL refugee games will be fixed.

If not, there will be Hell to pay, and hopefully the people who sold us these games know that. The fact that they're announcing it a year in advance should be some kind of indication that there will be steps taken to attempt some sort of transition.

Will I be able to use/play the DLC without having to mess with GFWL then?

That's what we are asking ourselves. Plenty of good games that use GFWL, will they be playable after it shuts down? That is what we are waiting from the developers to let us know.

Microsoft is closing the Games for Windows Live service by July 2014.

The information was leaked during an Age of Empires Online announcement, which has since been taken down. Microsoft intends to sell new games in the Windows 8 integrated storefront, and few, if any older games, will make the transition. Some games will flat out stop working as they require online authorization and DRM checks and their developers/publishers are defunct.

Here's some of the titles that will be affected:

Arkham Asylum
Arkham City
Bioshock 2
Bulletstorm
Dark Souls
Dawn of War 2
Dawn of War 2 Chaos Rising
Fable 3
Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet
Red Faction: Guerrilla
Street Fighter 4
Street Fighter x Tekken
Resident Evil 5
Section 8: Prejudice
World of Goo

You can find the full list below:

If left without a patch, these games will lose multiplayer features, and some will not work at all. You will no longer be able to purchase DLC for any of them, either.

I am emailing this to developers and publishers involved in the affected games, and posting it in the relevant forums. If you care about the ownership of your games, please pass this along. If you're a developer or publisher, please consider taking steps to prevent us from no longer being able to play the games we paid for.

Thank you.

Arkham City
Dark Souls
Fable 3
Street Fighter 4
World of Goo

I enjoy playing most of these games despite how awful GFWL is. I really hope atleast Arkham City and Dark Souls get updates.

SF4's Ultra update is switching to steam works confirmed.

I'm pretty sure the Steam version of World of Goo is GfWL free. Arkham City, again, is probably switching over to pure Steamworks. No clue on the future of Dark Souls, but I think the devs have probably learned their lesson, so at least Dark Souls 2 won't use it. Fable 3 is more than likely going to be hung out to dry.

Don't think many care for fable 3. Since fable the lost chapters is on steam now :D modding it which is fun. But not many mods... wish there were a lot more >.>

Thats just garbage. I haven't beaten it yet either. and they're essentially taking all the DLC away from me.
