Is Batman the only major active hero?
Is Batman the only major active hero?
Adding to the title - Does anyone here think that Batman and co are the only heroes in the Arkham Game Universe?

I think that Batman is the only major hero currently who is active in the Arkham Game Universe. I still that Clark Kent and other Superheroes exist, but they haven't come out and fought for earth as of yet.

With Hugo wanting a 'Arkham City' in Keystone and Metropolis, to me to means that there is no hero that stood up and fought for those cities and to leads me to believe that Batman is the only major hero.

With the side quest in Arkham City talking about dark times coming to Gotham and that it will burn, to me it lends that the next Arkham game (or the one after that) by Rocksteady will add the Superheroes into the Arkham Game Universe.

Then the other Superheroes will have their own game that leads to a build up to the Justice League game. So what does the community of Batman (and DC Superhero) fans at Gamefaqs think?

Edit: I have this on Gamefaqs on Arkham Orgin (PS3) and Arkham City (PS3)

I think we'll see more superhero games in the future

@ The Whale - I do hope we see new superheroes, I think any new superhero game will be there origin story.

YES. :D

@SHAZOOO - At least I'm not the only one in think that.

I think it'd be difficult to make a game about most other superheroes without really limiting them.

Superman's problems is the same as in films - he's too strong/invulnerable. How can you make a game like Arkham City where random thugs punching Superman would supposedly hurt him?

For the Green Lantern and Plastic Man their super powers are ideal for print media but in a game would just feel limited. In the comics Green Lanterns ring makes all different light weapons/items. In a game with a fixed number of buttons you can press how varied could it be?

The Flash would have to be slowed down to feel controllable. As would Superman come to mention it. Wonderwoman would have all the same problems as Superman and Flash.

Black Canary would be viable. Green Arrow would probably convert well to a video game. Huntress could be good too. Possibly someone like Steel/Big Barda could work.

@Super Stu - You are right it will be hard. I do think if Superman game does get made he will be likely be 2 and half Batman together and how the game plays out will not be the same as in the Arkham series. So I would likely depower all the heroes and rework them from Square 1.

I think I'd prefer another game where we play as batman, but the other members of the dc universe/the justice league are present. I think thats the work around. Rather than play as an invulnerable/overpowered Superman or play as a de-powered (and thus may as well not be) Superman, I'd just let them be characters that turn up in our next BATMAN story. He's just the best one for a video game.

@Super Stu - I understand that may be a work around, but then push will come to shove and the fanbase will want to play with someone else other than Batman. Maybe for Superman they can put a mode where he isn't using all his strength, but is still able to beat goon up easily.
Super Stu Jul 20, 2013 @ 7:58pm
If they introduce playing as Superman they ought to go the other way completely, don't have me beating up goons, pit me against one super-powered alien after another. A Superman game should be like Shadow of the Collossus was on PS2 - just a series of epic boss fights.

@ Super Stu - That isolation would be great, but to me Superman is ingain with Earth. What if the people that Superman are facing are superpowered via Brainiac, Doomsday or Superman Earth One route and the species that help destory Krypton.

Oh I don't mean the isolation of Shadow of the Collossus. Of course (mostly) keep the action on Earth. I just can't see the point in playing as Superman, flying around, pretending he's hurt when random followers of Harley Quinn hit him with a bat. It's dumb. If Superman is going to be involved, have him skip straight from one supervillain to another.

But I still say Green Arrow and Black Canary are much better suited to video games. Black Canary would be like a spandexed lady version of Skyrim.

@Super Stu - You can have Superman fighting just Supervillains and that worked well back in the 16-bit era, now they can do so much more, just I'm not 100% certain how the combat will work. Also I don't Harley Quinn's goons will be a brother to Superman. There will have to be goons that are powered up somehow. I really would like a Batgirl and Supergirl games.

I would like to see a game with Green Arrow and Black Canary, but it being Skyrim? No thanks I hate the combat for The Elder Scrolls series, to me it still the same as # 3. Skyrim needs better combat and better character animation.

This can be solved by making Superman invulnerable, but the City isn't. It could be like when tugs get hostage on Arkham City: If the hostage is killed, you lose, it's like dying. So a Superman game would be filled with this kind of situation, you lose when others die, when the villain succeed. The city would be Superman's health bar.

Wasn't that Superman Returns: The Video Game?
