Can't Play the Game?!?!

I just downloaded this game not too long ago and every time I try to launch the game the screen goes black and then returns to the desktop with a BlackBox window that popped up. It says that something is wrong the game and the Exception Reason is: Amnesia.exe caused an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION in module <UNKNOWN> at 0023:00000000

Can anyone tell me how to fix this because I really want this game and I don't want to have just wasted $20.00 on a game I can't play.

Make sure you have installed the latest drivers of your video card. This game uses OpenGL instead of DirectX and older drivers don't ship with the required version of OpenGL to run Amnesia.

If you could provide any assistance on how I go about updating the drivers on my video card I would be thankful.

Sure, but first I need some more information about your system. What kind of videocard do you have?

If you are not sure, here is a quick way to check (assuming you are using Windows):
- Press <Windows key> + R
- In the window that pops up, type "dxdiag" and hit enter.
- A new Window pops up. There might be a message coming up about Windows wanting to check the drivers. This is fine, just allow it.
- Go to the video tab.

In this screen you should be able to see the model and manufacturer of your graphics card.

Thanks, but I was actually able to figure it out how to update my driver anyways. Thanks again though! I've been having a blast playing this game.

i had this problem on far cry 2 and 3 me like a idiot set everything to "ultra" to see how it would run and i screwed my self well

im srry to say u have to uninstall the game or steam and re- install it & (YES THIS MEANS EVERY GAME ON STEAM WILL BE DELETED) it sucks but i feel yours and other peoples pain, i tryed to fix this problem my self but after a few hours i was able to fix it, like i said i over did my cards recomended settings

its prob your graphics settings if u fiddled around with it , its set way to high
or ur computer just sucks and lacks the graphics card or ram to support the game

( try running to your local shop and buy a new graphics card and upgrading ur ram to ur spec if ur on a tower or running a laptop that will let u swap out both of them) windows or mac


.. to set ur game play updating might help fix the prob but ifnot u MUST reset ur settings for ur graphics on ur os then tell me if that works, some graphics cars like my intel HD 4000 built in my mac witch sucks ( cannot be replaced ) cant handle to much Shade I set everything on Low, texture high detail high, works for me graphics look great! :)
u give it a try oh and i found out if u go to your games library and turn off your in-game steam community it will boost up ur FPS any where from 10 to 20 FPS (tested my self) even though i have a fast computer hope this helps
