How gruesome is this game?
I've been considering purchasing this game, but I'm curious as to how bloody and gory it is. Is it on the same level as Dead Space? Thanks for any replies.

It isn't hypergory like Dead Space. Instead of showing you a lot of the violence, it IMPLIES violence. ex) You would walk up to a torture chamber and hallucinate sounds of someone being tortured, then when you entered the actual chamber, you would see an indication of what actually occured(that's all I'm going to spoil for you). Instead of shoving horror in your face, the game leaves a lot of it up to the human imagination.

So there aren't any limbs or body parts laying around? What about swearing? Is there any of that?

If you're young/senstitive enough to worry about something like swearing, then I recommend you don't even buy this game.

Why don't you go to google images and search "Amnesia Monster" just to see for yourself how gruesome it is.

I've seen the monsters, and although they're quite creepy, I don't find them horrific or disturbing. But, I do have family who might, and that's what I'm concerned about.

Aside from Alan Wake, this seems to be one of the only horror games that isn't "OMG BLOOD BLOOD GORE GORE EXPLOSIONS ZOMBIES YEAH!" and offers a more phsycological experiance instead of jump scares, which is why I'm so interested in it.

Ah, alright. I misunderstood. Then by all means, get the game. The horror behind it is purely psychological and the story is extremely compelling.

Think of it this way. If Edgar Allan Poe made a video game, this would be it. It's gruesome in very subtle ways.

This game contains some extremely disturbing content, Paint the man, cut the lines gives me chills to this day. There are only two swears in the entire game though, , (B-word, Piece of S-word) and another three in the free expansion Justine that follows with the purchase, along with the "Remember" .pdf novels (C-word, W-word x2).

There are a lot of dead bodies around in the latter part of the game, but they're just naked men with no visible injuries or cause of death.

I can pretty much echo what others have said that much of the 'gruesomeness' is psychological. I tend to be rather queasy with blood and stuff and I got through okay.

W-word? I don't know if I'm either too young or too old to get it, or what... but I don't remember any 'w' word in my childhood. The only thing I can think of is 'wank'.

It's not Left 4 Dead 2 bad, but there is some. Mostly on the Monsters.

I can't believe we're forgetting the puzzle in the sewer puzzle.
Puzzle SPOILER:

At one part of the game you have to vaccinate your character from poisonous fungus to continue the game. You have to drill a hole in a dead body, stab a iron pipe in the newly formed hole, attrach a needle in pipe and stab your self.
I wasn't disturbed by it as much as surprised and slightly grossed out.
But I can totally see someone being bothered by this.

There is some other gruesome moments like this.

Not dead space or left 4 dead or bulletstorm, but its pretty gruesome in terms of reality. There are intestents, blood, gore, guts, sound effects of bones snapping (This makes me flinch every time), and even situations where animals are being sliced open and such. Not one for squemish people but doesn't really make you vomit.

There's a few limbs in the torture chambers and also some blood.

There is also these shower rooms with piles of bodies... It made me think of "gas chambers" in concentration camps during 2nd war... Disturbing !

Well, there is some gore. Blood splatters will be on the floor on some cases and some dead bodies can also be found. Ow, and an occasional naked man where you can see his ♥♥♥♥ but other than that.. nothing too extreme IMO.

But I think gore is the least you should worry about. :P The general mood of the game and scenario's are just terifying.
