Does amnesia have jumpscares?
I hate jumpscares, and i've stopped playing amnesia because i heard there were some.
I'm fine with bioshock and dead space, so will i get scared with this game? (jumpscare scary) and if theres jumpscares, how frequently and what are some examples

It did have some, but it felt more psychologically scary than jumpscares scary. I wouldn't say it was at all dependant or full of jumpscares, it did a good enough job with the atmosphere and ambient sounds.

Without giving away too many spoilers, some jumpscares include a monster smashing a door you were about to open or something suddenly starting to chase you.

its more of a tension builder than a jumpscare game but i have to admit that it does creep you out a lot because of the stuff that goes on in the game and im not going to say anything just try it for yourself

The game creates a lingering atmospheric fear, so you are constantly tense and nervous of your surroundings. There are some jumpscares, like a monster bashing a door down suddenly, or a chase scene, but if you're careful and serious when a monster is spawned, they shouldn't harm you. Just stay out of their way and don't make any eye contact. And if needs be, then run.

You can also scare yourself when you creep around. If you're holding an object, you can bash it into a wall and the sound would jump you. Also, your sanity can play tricks on you. If you spend too much time in the darkness, you can hallucinate monsters and other things.

My tips for the game -

-Try and maintain health and sanity. They will be important for your survival.
-Don't be stupid around the monsters, and try not to look at them either. It will drain your sanity and they will eventually see you.
-Conserve your oil. It is extremely helpful in the game, especially in the Prison sections.
-Some monsters can kill you in one hit if you don't have full health. Try and avoid monster encounters by constructing hiding places in your environment.
-You are never safe. In nearly every level, there is a threat. Not necessarily a monster, but things in your environment can harm you if you're not careful.

Hope this helped! :)

The game itself doesn't have many jumpscares. In fact, there are just a few. You should be okay, considering you played Dead Space. But then, I don't recommend Custom Stories for this game. Most of them are cheap jumpscares maps and no story. But there are some really good ones, similar to the main game. Just google for non-jumpscare maps.

The fear you can get from playing Amnesia is psychological (Dragriff said it already). The sounds and the visual kontent without the monsters will make your hearth go faster. So its not like Doom3 (jumpscare every 5 secs, monster spawn only at your back and you cant see something because its that dark) the last one counts actualy by Amnesia too but in this darkenss you know there isnt a monster that is going to jump scare you but it still makes you freak out while waiting for something to happen. sorry for long text

Oh so there are jumpscares in this game, dissapointing. I guess I will hold off on buying this until the developers remove them. I've got nothing wrong with being scared but jumpscares are just too much and frankly (In my opinon) they should be made illegal.

They aren't going to remove them. The jump scares aren't too bad though, it's more an overall feeling of dread, not surprising cheap jump scares.

Just a couple of jumpscarse, but a lot of gooseflesh.

Ah, Yahtzee - the Family Guy of video game reviewers. I wouldn't be surprised if he barely played the game, like what he does for most of the other games he reviews.

At least he's good for laughs when he's offending SJWs.

Embarrasing. Do you even know how you sound saying such things? Jesus.

Unless you're trolling...

theres no jumpscares (except some custom stories) just a monster roaming around a castle randomly if you hear growling he's near you or hear footsteps upstairs he's there up above you.
never liked you. Jun 22, 2014 @ 5:57pm
you'll see jumpscares more in custom stories, but the game itself doesn't have very many, it's mostly an atmospheric game

There's not a lot but I've had to quit cuz of some before. xD

The jumpscares are on par with Dead Space IMO. It's the atmosphere that gets ya.
