Changing spectator client to beta client

I received a dota 2 invite as a gift, but since steam thinks I already own dota 2 via spectator client I can't get the playable version. If I try to activate the gift through email I just get stuck on "Scanning for steam licenses updates." Also, the invite is not in my gift inventory so the only way to view it is through the link in the email. Has anyone found a solution to this?

I have the same problem, just uninstall and redownload. I'm currently redownloading, I'll see if it works or not.

I just reinstalled and it says my gift has already been redeemed but it's still the spectator client. So bogus :(

how long you dota 2 invite you?
i almost 1 mount wait for invite, but until now i just can see people play dota2 :(
please help if you have a clue :)

this discussion isnt about getting dota 2 keys, its about us having a provlem so seriox and your fear please go somewhere else.

I have the exact same problem as the OP... This is why they shouldn't automatically make F2P games "owned" by people...

have you checked library? I got miself confused when I got keys cause I still have in Library Dota2 spectator client, though also I have Dota2 client too you tried just clicing on it there in library? And also maybe uninstaling spectating one?
All I needed to do is just to upgrade my spectating install into proper one and game worked just fine.

have you accepted the invite? better check your email. there is a link there which fowards you to accept the gift.
