DotA 2 lag/(low FPS?) and delay
Hi there,

I just installed DotA 2 but I have have some serious lag. Actually am I not quite sure that it is lag, maybe is it just very few frames per second. But I'm a sure about that I got delay and all these things together makes it impossible for me to play.

I don't have any of these problems when I play DotA in Warcraft..

I have just restored my computer to factory settings, so I should have enough space. I use cabel for my internet and yes, I do deactivate the wireless connection while I'm using the cable.

Please help me if there is something I can do.

Some system informations:
OS: Windows 7
Computer model: eMachines E527
Computer type: x64-based PC
Processor: Celeron(R) Dual-Core CPU T3300 @ 2.00 GHz, 1995 Mhz
RAM: 3.00 GB

Please let me know if you need more information.

Best regards,
Jakob

This is almost certainly due to your low-spec laptop. It was not suitable for gaming when it was released 3 years ago, and it certainly is not suitable today.

Share a DirectX Diagnostics[windows.microsoft.com] log with us.

1. Open the Start menu, type "dxdiag" and press Enter.
2. Select Yes if you are questioned about confirming digitally signed drivers.
3. If available, click "Run 64-bit DxDiag" right from the button "Help".
4. Click "Save All Information...", upload the file[ompldr.org], and share it with us.

Dota 2 is a very optimised game. This most likely due to Gabe Newell expressing his positive thoughts towards ultrabooks and wanting games to work on them very fine.

I play Dota 2 on my Intel HD3000 graphics powered ultrabook on lowest settings and highest resolution, and I never experience any kind of temporary slow downs.

Here is Dota 2 running on a very similar setup provided by the thread starter:

Your setup is very concerning. You have never updated your Windows at all.

Operating System

Start by updating Windows. Enable Microsoft Update[update.microsoft.com] and keep scanning for updates to then install them, and reboot when presented. Keep doing this until Windows Update reports that no updates are left.

Certain updates you might not want such as Microsoft Silverlight and Bing Desktop. Right click these updates and pick the hide option. You might have to do this several times for Microsoft Silverlight.

Graphics

Once you have fully updated your operating system, go to the Intel[intel.com] website. In the menu pick Support -> Downloads and Drivers -> Browse for Drivers.

At Find By Category pick Graphics -> Laptop graphics drivers -> Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family. Once there grab "Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver, Windows 7* 64, Windows Vista* 64 (exe)" from the list.

Sound

Finally go to the Realtek[www.realtek.com] website. On the homepage at Quick Links pick "HD Audio Codec Driver" and download "64bits Vista, Windows7, Windows8 Driver only (Executable file)".

The first time you run the setup it will uninstall the existing driver and ask for a reboot. Once rebooted the setup will continue to install the actual updated driver, and then you are all good.

Game

I also recommend you to set your Dota 2 settings to the absolute minimum. If all works well, you can increase them one by one if you please. I suggest keeping your resolution at native, which is 1366 x 768. Only lower this if Dota 2 still lags after all this, with having it set to the lowest settings.

Hi there

OS
Thank you for the help so far. I have updated my windows as much as I can. (It doesn't show any options besides an IE update, when I search for new updates).

GRAPHICS
I have downloaded the program (Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver, Windows 7* 64, Windows Vista* 64 (exe)) from intel.com, but when I run it and the installing end, I get this error:

"The driver that is installing, is not validated to this computer. Obtain the relevant driver from the computer manufacturer
The installationprogram closes"

SOUND
I have installed without any issues, so I guess it has been install correctly.

Best regards

Specifically, this is the GMA driver you should be downloading:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2991&DwnldID=22167&ProductFamily=Graphics&ProductLine=Laptop+graphics+drivers&ProductProduct=Mobile+Intel%c2%ae+4+Series+Express+Chipset+Family&lang=eng

Don't expect it to make much of a difference though. Not sure that Fred realises how much of a performance gap there is between his Intel HD 3000 and your GMA 4500. Also, the video he posted is being done on a much more capable system than yours (Pentium dual-core for a desktop, compared to your laptop Celeron).

That is also the one I have downloaded. I still get the same error.

This means the display driver is locked to the OEM, you would need to get it from the manufacturers support site rather than from Intel. Likely they stopped updating it years ago, if they ever did. Another thing you can try is configuring Windows Update to check for hardware updates as well as OS updates, but it may have been doing that all along in which case you would have the latest driver available anyway.

I suggest you keep Internet Explorer updated even if you do not use it. If you do not want to have Internet Explorer installed, remove it through "Windows Features" which can be found in the Windows Control Panel.

As for your graphics driver, grab VGA Driver 8.15.10.1892 from this page:
Downloads & Support Documents - Notebook / E Series / E527[support.gateway.com]

I also recommend you to update your BIOS. The latest version can be found under the BIOS tab on the above posted page.

I have done everything you told me, but it is still the same. :(
Isn't there anything I can do, besides buying a new computer? I really want to play.

There is nothing you can do. The Intel GMA falls waaaaay below the minimum specs required to play the game, so I am surprised it even runs at all.
(Minimum is GeForce 6600, which scores about 40% better in benchmarks than the GMA 4500)

What are your Dota 2 settings? Can you share a screenshot of both your video settings pages?

Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_gdr.100618-1621)

You have never updated your Windows. Considering you are also running the Ultimate edition I suspect it is not genuine either.

Card name: Intel(R) HD Graphics Family
Driver Date/Size: 3/26/2011 01:19:48, 8212480 bytes

Update your graphics driver, it is more than two years old.
