A Growing Issue
More and more frequently im seeing players say some horrific things in the chat. The usual scenario consists of a player not preforming very well and then someone on their team starts calling them a "noob" or whatever. What really angers me is when "noob" turns into "Uninstall Dota and go kill yourself." I have seen people say something similar to that phrase countless times. I mean, Dota 2 is a game where people should enjoy themselves and improve through experience, not be harrassed for having a bad game. What are your thoughts and feelings about this?

I know exactly what you mean. I've experienced what you described so many times, but often they are actually doing way worse than the person they harass. When the person is doing worse it's often because they are a support, and they won't get a lot of kills. I absolutely hate people who keep blaming others for everything, but what I hate even more is that you can't really do anything about it. Sure you can report them, but what good does that do? Low priority for the next match? It simply isn't enough.

Yeah exactly. We all know harrassing is bound to happen in gaming, but when it becomes the extreme and the players are actually telling you to commit suicide, I just feel like that is unacceptable.

Then stop being so sensitive and grow some balls, just stop caring about what they say
Personally, I don't care. I guess im just trying to say I've been taken aback at how the Dota community acts

Go play League of Legends. They don't take kindly to "toxic" players. To me, it's all part of the game. It's psychological warfare. Though if your own team is saying that ♥♥♥♥ to you, then they're just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Tell them you'd love to kill yourself, but ♥♥♥♥ing their mom is just too much fun.
Jesta Qwky Feb 12 @ 10:10pm
I can relate, I don't generally get called bad, and ♥♥♥♥, but today I decided my first game of the day was going to be on a hero I hadn't really played; Faceless Void, my team had EarthShaker, Alch, Razor, and Spirit Breaker.. We were all terrible choices, against Slardar, Clockwerk, Phantom Lancer, Windranger, and Ogre Magi. Phantom abandoned early and then Wind and Ogre abandoned, leaving Slardar and Clock to farm, Phantom Lancer came back around 25 minutes, and I was well underfarmed , and when I laned for EXP slardar blinked to me and stunned me, before I could get away I was dead every time, (This went on for like.. 4-5 kills before I just stayd in the jungle for a while) after that I farmed for a long time, before I got anything worth a damn, Finally did my MoM Power Treads and Battle fury before I was even remotely useful, and several minutes later I got my butterfly then crystlys Finally I was able to be useful in the match.

Getting to the point, not only was it the opposing team talking ♥♥♥♥, but my support and 2 of the other carries were talking ♥♥♥♥ about me being a noob, and useless, in the end I was a higher level then all of them, short of Alchemist In the end we finally overwhelmed them around 65 minutes in, after the game was over, they were still talking ♥♥♥♥, mostly the opposing team.

Either way I look at it, if you're going to be rude and all around bad for your team as far as communication.. don't play, if you're so busy calling your team mates noobs, you're going to do ♥♥♥♥ty all by your self, and it will put them in a foul mood making them do worse then they already were. There have been games where the harrassment is so bad that I've almost abandoned from my own team being beligerant. I have enough of an issue with beating myself up if I perform poorly, why do I need a team that will brow beat me for it too?

I mean ♥♥♥♥.. EVERYONE has a bad game. Even with their best heroes. Mine is Riki.. I know he isn't a particularly hard hero to play, not really the point though. There have been games where my build that is almost a sure win... gets shut down so hard that I can't recover, by time I catch up, everyone has already gotten so tanky from my being unable to harrass. And it seldom happens but occasionally you're pitted agaisnt players that are just purely better than you, by either teamwork, or just cognitive prowess, and you end up feeding, because something that works normally is a flaw that they can exploit. No one is perfect at Dota, if they were there would be no reason to play a strategy game that has no possible challange.

I say why not TEACH those who don't know. Or better yet, assist them. If you lose because of them.. suck it up, it's a pub match. I've gone from positive 20 to negative 18, now I'm at negative 3, as far as wins to losses. Which is reasonable. Unfortunately trolling has gotten so bad it's even in closed beta events like the ESO Beta.

(I'm aware that this post is rambling on and on, but it's point is that we shouldn't condemn our team mates, that's a strong way to help the enemy team, and no one likes to lose. Help them, and try and be nice to them, cheer them on. Otherwise they might leave you down a man, or feed the enemy.. I've contemplated both under harsh circumstances (Never actually doing it because I'm too competitive)).

@Jesta Qwky Thanks for posting something actually relevant. And I totally agree. What else would the "teaching" option for commendations be for? If people would focus on teaching players instead of calling them "noobs". There would be a lot less "noobs".

I've also been threatened that they will find out where I live and r.a.p.e me.
