SSVR: The First Encounter is now a full release!
Good news, everybody!

SSVR: The First Encounter is exiting Early Access in 3, 2,1... Aaaand it's officially out!


First of all, a huge thank you! We couldn't have done it without you and you've been nothing short of amazing! Your feedback and comments were instrumental in tackling a lot of issues in VR. It's an amazing new technology and we'll admit it: we liked it from the start so much that we decided to jump straight in, without thinking twice. We thought we got everything covered, but in reality we couldn't have done it without Early Access and your support, ideas and even constructive criticism (although it did make us cry a little a few times).
Except those two guys that left negative comments. We have your IPs and we know where you live. -.-

Case in point: we're posting the full change log from the final build at the end of this post, there are quite a few changes, features and bug fixes. Now, we're pretty sure that if missed anything there will be somebody to call us out (and we're still here and will do our best), but it's going to interesting to find out what's the most exciting new feature?

Common workshop and cross-game mods? Linux and SteamOS support? Comfort locomotion or gamepad controls? Personally, it's the Serious Sam Fusion 2017 integration, or rather the ability to shoot at VR naysayers in a cross-platform deathmatch. That's right, you can play a VR vs “flat” deathmatch (or any other mode) on a SINGLE server.

So, who wins in a motion controller vs keyboard & mouse match? To keep the fight clean we added the option to disable (blink) teleporting for VR users. There's also a “VR friendly” mode setting as an icon in the server list.

Make sure to let us know the results! Or, if you're feeling lucky, invite us to a match! Now that the game is officially shipped, we should be able to make it (theoretically).

Release build ( 297936) for SSVR: The First Encounter is out now. Here are the changes:

- Made werebulls less aggressive when charging.
- Third person camera no longer clips through doors.
- Sniper now always deals full damage in VR.
- Puppets that need to be killed to proceed to the next area now get despawned after a while if they get stuck.
- Fixed player jumping out of water instead of diving out at high frame rates.
- Increased deathmatch player speed.
- Fixed beheaded rocketeers and firecrackers not gibbed by the single shotgun when shot from close.
- Fixed HD Gnaar can't be gibbed by grenade launcher.
- Fixed Quickdraw achievement in VR.
- Fixed wrong HUD colors on level change between TFE and TSE (what's this, you ask? We'll share more details on TSE soon!)
- Custom levels, episodes, game modes and player models are no longer displayed in non-moddable game.
- The multiplayer model menu will now use the current-title-specific models whenever possible.
- Weapon slots are now bindable.
- Fixed hud_bShowClock.
- Player name no longer covers the crosshair.
- Fixed crosshair can only be used in first person now because it was very inaccurate in 3rd person.
- If playing the game in a language that is not supported, there is an option to reset the language and proceed.
- Subtitles are now visible when voice language is not English.
- Fixed localization in TFE intro cutscene.
- Fixed unlocalized voiceovers.
- Keyboard and Gamepad shortcuts are now visible in VR menus.
- Non-xinput controllers can now be used for split screen.
- More than one keyboard and mouse can now be usedfor a split screen game.
- Added config for the PS4 pro controller.
- Fixed right eye rendering in single pass VR when super-sample antialiasing is used.
- (Modding) Fixed invalid world files saved by the 2017 editor. Note - levels that don't work need to be resaved.
- (Modding) License checks are now performed for world files only.
- Various other stability and gameplay fixes.
- Secret ammo items are no longer hidden when infinite ammo is enabled.
- Key items are no longer shown for other players once they are picked up.
- Players can now use bouncers in VR when VR friendly mode is disabled.
- VR friendly mode setting is now shown as an icon in the server list.
- Weapons in VR no longer overlap or point towards the player if looking at a very close target when playing with a keyboard/mouse or a gamepad.
- Fixed menu colors when switching between game titles.
- Fixed color options preview image.
- Fixed wrong usage hint on items.
- Fixed a bug where the player could sometimes pass through a werebull.
- Fixed bug that was causing text in chat to be reversed and in wrong position.
- Fixed various multiplayer model selection problems.
- Level names are now translated in the session info menu.
- Fixed moving brushes not killing players and enemies.
- If the user tries to load an outdated save (lower savedata version) he will be prompted to start from the beginning of the level (fallback load) or cancel the load.
- (Editor) Removed the option for global game params to be None.
- (Editor) Fixed the bug where md_bLoadIncompatibleTypes would only work on the second attempt.
- (Editor) Fixed a crash when opening some SamHD mod levels in the editor.
- (Mixed reality) Added message that explains the workaround for the problem of certain video capture devices not working when running from the Steam folder.
- (Mixed reality) Message is now displayed when video capture initialization fails.

After update I can no longer open Serious Editor. When I double click it, it starts loading, but after a few seconds it stops, and nothing happens :/

Found achievements bug. Instead of the cap being 22, it's now 26 for some reason even though there are no new ones listed on here or the Steam statistics.

Does the editor by any chance have a vr mode?
You guys are great, this has been my number one most played vr game, even over arizona sunshine, you guys nailed the locomotion off the bat. i know ive complained about some stuff which i may test tonight if time permits if not tommorow and ill let you know. But i complained because i love the game, and after finally settling on pc and vr (used to console game but xbone killed it for me) it has caused me to want to achievement hunt again (used to but red rings and console swapping and i was like whats the point?) So sorry if ive sent some complaints, i hope you got that coop log and quickdraw works, but other than that, youve made a new fan to the series and i will be day 1ing your future serious sam releases. May even check out talos principle just cause you guys rock and i love supporting good devs. even picked up the last hope a few weeks ago, personally i hate wave shooters, but you guys left me with a good impression. Keep it up :D
