game keeps crashing when I try to change video settings
I bought the game on sale and was going to try it out but before I started I wanted to change the video settings. I changed it to 1920x1080 or whatever, which is what my monitor supports, and reduced the graphics settings from ultra to low, but when I apply, it crashes, every time. I even tried just reducing the graphics settings without changing the resolution and it still crashes. I also tried on both of the direct x options to see if doing it as 9 would help, but sadly, no. Can anyone help me out here? Why would it crash when trying to lower my graphics settings?

Go into the files and do it manually. Should be something like options.txt config.txt, etc. If it doesn't help then I don't know. Same thing happens to me.

The file is called display. Hope this helps.

Wow that was quite the necro, and yeah I had already solved the issue. I bought a new video card a few months ago. Issue was I had a stock card in my store bought computer that never had any driver updates so it just didn't work. I put a GTX 660 in and all was well.

Here is the trick: Go to C:Program Files/Steam/setamapps/common/Saints Row The Third... there you have to open file "display.ini". There you will find some line with a value "-1", just delete the minus (-) sign and save changes... That works for me, hopefully for you guys too.
