Why is this game so much funner than GTA4?
I have GTA4, and for me it was immensely boring, I only managed to play it for about an hour. But SR3 which shares the same genre as GTA4 is so much funner. Why can't I enjoy GTA4 as much as I did with SR3?

It's easy. GTA tries to look seriously, while SRTT is mostly centered about all the jokes. For example, you are new in city and in need of weapons? Let's assault military base.

Saints Row, as a series, is a "do whatever dumb thing pops into your head, that goes double with 2 players" simulator. And it's fantastic as that. It's as over the top as it can be, and that's what makes it so fun.
GTA, post the Vice City/San Andreas days, seems to have become the "Hollywood movie experience" type of game. Less "have Tommy Versetti chase some dude with a chainsaw" and more "hurf durf crime is srs business".

tl;dr: In a fun game, you should never be interrupted with a phone call that's "hey, quit what you're doing and come do some boring minigame". The phone call SHOULD be "hey, come over here and wreak havoc, a septic truck may be involved."
Yeah, last night I robbed a tattoo parlor and escaped on a golf cart with vtols chasing me in Saints Row, that'll happen in GTA precisely when Justin Bieber grows a ♥♥♥♥.

'Cos GTAIV is boring and ♥♥♥♥s in SR3 much better than ♥♥♥♥s in GTA

GTA4 went in a different direction and went the more seious route, that and the lack of things to do made it boring once you finished the game (if you finished it). This game is completely over the top so it's more fun to play and replay, plus the character creator is great.

That being said though this series could still use a lot of work, but I much rather play this than GTA.

This game hit the balance were it was serious enough to be playable , but it did not take itself too seriously.

I like this game.

But SR4... they really messed up the formula there...

Coming from someone who hates sandbox games, this is the best one I've ever played. It just has the perfect balance of seriousness and ridiculousness... not to mention the support characters are likable and the character creator gives you some decent options. I made my guy sound like Jason Statham with a British accent but he was a fat ginger dude. Interesting and weird combinations you can come up with but it makes it unique and gives you a sense of ownership over that character.

The game is also incredibly casual, it doesn't take long to reach the max level as there's so much to do and discover. It all seems really overwhelming at first but it's not nearly as horrible as GTA's sidequests / convoluted maps.

It just feels like a dumbed down version of GTA and I'm cool with that... Most sandbox games for me get obnoxious and boring very quickly... but this one didn't, so that says something... it's got charm.

I was also incredibly fond of and grateful for the end game perks like no vehicle damage and infinite ammo... basically it removed all the minor annoyances at the end so you could just focus on your goals which is great.

I doubt Saints Row I, II or IV could even come close to topping this one. In summation I'm pretty much never playing any other game in this franchise and ending this one on a high note. :)

It's much funner than GTA 4 because it is actually focused on letting the player have fun, rather than constantly trying to place needless limitations on the player.

In GTAV, you CAN knock off a store and escape on a golf cart... Granted, not chased by VTOLS because the way the GTA universe works recently wouldn't fit that in. Why are people pretending that GTA didn't do all of this stuff first? I like the Saints Row franchise as much as anyone else, but it's not better than GTA because it isn't realistic. It just makes it a different game.

Well to be honest SR3 is the game you want to screw around with, due to the nature of the game. GTA is just too serious for my taste.

Exactly. They're two different entities that do two different things. The only thing they have in common is being "crime sandboxes," which is a really vague term. You play GTA for the story, character development, and somewhat silly occurences. You play Saints Row for the power fantasy and general whackiness. Saints Row 2 is a silly love letter to GTA San Andreas, in my opinion. After that, Saints Row became its own creature. Also, San Andreas did the whole military base invasion for the overpowered gadget thing first. It just didn't do it in such a power-fantasy way. Both franchises are great at what they do (except GTA IV; blech). One doesn't dismiss the other. Both are worth playing and enjoying.
