Can I get help making skins?
I was bored and said "fck it, I'm going to make a re-skin of Ellis' shirt. I looked online and found this guide (http://l4d2.gamebanana.com/tuts/9294). I'm not going to buy Photoshop so I tried using Gimp. But this brought up a problem.

At the beginning of the guide it says "You will also need a plug-in if you are using Adobe Photoshop." with no mention of needing a plug-in with Gimp. But then, a paragraph later it says "If you are using photoshop (as I strongly recommend you to do) you will find the plug-in here: http://nemesis.thewavelength.net/index.php?p=39 If you are using Gimp or similar softwares you will find the plug-in by searching for VTF Plug-in."

So I do have to download a plug-in for Gimp? OKay, but I looked on Google and found no such plug-in.

Second part:

"Finding the VTF-file will be very easy for you! You'll just have to download the VTF-files for the characters from here: http://www.lassejensen.org/FPSBanana_vtf-files.zip"

That link takes you no where. Where do I get the VTFs?

The .vtf files you're looking for should be in the pak01_dir.vpk. In order to open this .vpk, you're going to need GCFScape.[nemesis.thewavelength.net] This will let you open and extract the files you need. Those files should be in the materials folder. Dig around in there until you find something that has something like "survivor_mechanic" in the name.

Any idea on the plug-in?

I don't know. I have heard of a program called VTFEdit that's supposed to help with conversions and everything, but I have not given it a proper check and cannot recommend it as highly as GCFScape.

VTFEdit is used to convert textures, and does everything the plugins do. It's made by the same person that made GCFScape as well. When using it I recommend exporting and importing the texures as targa files.

There is a gimp plugin here if you rather want to use it instead.
