[Solved] Length of Soundtracks for Modding
Is it a must to adjust the length of the soundtrack to the same as the original one so that the sound mod runs properly?

I' ve tried to replace the original soundtrack in the root folder of "sound" by another track with a longer track length. After that, I entered the command "snd_rebuildsoundcache" in the console. The music played properly and looped normally at the correct position.

However, when I make the same track to a vpk file and test it, the music ends at a position earlier and loops at a wrong position. For example, the modding track of tank.wav (1:17) loops when it plays for 52s (the original track length is 52s).

I have typed "snd_buildsoundcachediretory" to build sound.cache in the addon folder before it is converted to vpk file but it doesn't fix the problem.

VPK sound files only work at the original length. If you overwrite your game sound files and rebuild, it will work however long the file may be. Here may be of some help...

Is it if I follow your guide, I can convert the sound mod to vpk format and loop properly despite of the soundtrack length?

If it's in .VPK format with or without a .cache it won't loop properly unless it matches the exact length of the original sound file.

You can just overwrite the game sound files and rebuild though. Verifying the Cache would overwrite them though.
