[FIXED] Source SDK L4D2 Music problem
From what I can tell I seem to be the only one with this problem, the internet wont give me any help with this problem so I am posting it here...

The problem I am having is that I can't seem to get music to play in my maps, all I simply want to do is have a intro with the normal ambiant music in the background like about every l4d map ever... I have tried useing ambient_generic, ambient_music, env_soundscape and more but non can play the music, to be specific I am trying to use the sound file: music/stmusic/deadair.wav

I have also tried setting the music in the Map Properties (Music Post-Fix String) and that also does nothing, I have checked my l4d2 settings to see if I had music off but I do not, I have rebuilt my sound cache files both in and out-side of game and still nothing works.
All sounds/music in-game from other maps such as the campain maps them self work just fine also.

The only thing I can think of why this does not work is because the sounds them self I am useing cant be played in-game for some reason, but I have searched the files many of times and I cant find any other files of the same music that would be able to play in-game.

Am I just being stupid and missing something very obviose or is this really a compile problem or something?...

Normally the music plays automatically based on the map property sound info. There is no need to set up any in game entities to make music (So I’d suggest killing all entities you made to make music that way, as they may mess things up). I’ve literally never done anything related to the music, and the music has run perfectly an automatically on every map I’ve made (even on partially done maps). The only thing I can think of is that the Nav may need to be setup, because things like the checkpoints change what music plays. So if you haven’t built the Nav yet, that might be your problem.

If you have built the Nav: I’d suggest making a new map (something real simple like 3 rooms) where you haven’t done anything to the music. Throw down a nav mesh, save the nav, and restart the map. See if you get music. This should tell you if the problem is with your original map settings, or a problem with hammer.

Thank you for this infomation, it never occured to me that the Nav might be doing this and normaly I would do all that after building the map so it would make sence it is not working.
I will try what you have said to build a small level to test it but if nothing still occures I will give more information on the problem.

I tested your therory on how the Nav not being implimented could have caused the problem and created a small map with some door ways, zombies spawned and all so the nav was correct but restarting the map still did not launch any music. I can't understand what is causing the issue...

Note: I am launching the Hammer Editor from the Bin files because attempting to run the program from the main tool on steam freezes the program and never loads. Could this be effecting anything?

For anyone else who has had this problem and does not know why, This was FIXED by setting a main gamemode for the map, this can either be done with some map properties or when launching the map simply type for exsample: "map l4d2_bridge survival", that end part is the main thing you want to focus on in that console command.
