the "info_player_start" option not working...
I'm creating my first map and I'm going through the tutorial. When I place the player start icon on the level, then compile it, the result is I'm floating somewhere under the map in limbo.

I tried moving the player start, but got the same results.

Finally, I compiled the map without the player start, I got the same result again, which lead me to believe that the program/map is not recognizing the "info_player_start" command.

has anyone else experienced this same problem?

The info_player_start entity is not used in L4D2. If you create a nav mesh, the players will spawn in the areas you've marked with PLAYER_SPAWN. You can also use info_survivor_position to control where the survivors spawn.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm still very much the newbie and am going through the tutorial that comes with Hammer.

I'm clueless as to what a nav mesh is, but in the documentation, it reads, "add a player start entity to test the map out. this will be where the player will spawn in a simple level".

it then tells me to select the entity tool. then to pick "info_player_start_ from teh objects drop down. finally to left-click on the floor to place the player_start.

it's then that I run the compiler. and I get the result I stated above.

As far as marking an area with PLAYER_SPAWN, I'm clueless as to how that is done.

I figured it out. I wound up deleting the entire level and starting from scratch. That seemed to solve the problem.

there was something obviously wrong with the level, but I'm still too much of a newb to know exactly what it was.

thanks for the help anyway.

Cheers

Making the navigation mesh and a marking areas on it comes later in the tutorial. It's made in-game to show where players and zombies can spawn and move.
