Music Mods for the General Music. Is It Even Feasible?
I'm trying to change up most of the music in L4D2. I've been rummaging through the sound files, and have replaced the bacteria folder with the sounds I wanted. Then came the contagion folder, followed by the flu folder, and the many other folders that were for things I didn't recognize. I didn't even know where to start, and deciding it would be absurdly time consuming trying to replace every single one of those files, I figured I'd ask if anyone knows which files are actually used in gameplay, if any files are played at the same time (since there are a lot of single instrument files, and I can only assume that if they're used in-game they are played several at a time to make an actual song), and if it's even feasible to try to replace the music that plays throughout most of a campaign. If there are lots of files that play at the same time, I'm pretty sure I can make a workaround by having one be the music I want, then having the others just be silent, but I just wanted to know if anyone else has/is attempting what I am, and if anyone else is more knowledgable than me on this subject.

It is possible to mod every sound in the game, but the single instrument ones that only last like 5 seconds loop so unless you want to make a sound out of 2 looping 6 second sound files, it's best to leave those alone. I haven't tested it but maybe you could try cutting a song in half and making both parts loop, and entering snd_rebuildaudiocache in the console. If that doesn't work you can try replacing the originals with the ones you made and trying snd_rebuildaudiocache again. And if that doesn't work then I got nothing. :Nepgear:

When you say cutting a song in half do you mean length-wise, or splitting it from stereo to mono? Also, do you happen to know which of those looping files are linked to each other? I could probly guess, but if you know more, I'd love to know.

Thanks for the response, by the way, it actually helped a lot!

Yes I mean length wise, I should have been more specific on saying half, I really meant to say divide the song between all the individual segments of the original sounds that make up the song. Also yes split them to mono because the sound files that need replaced are mono. I don't really know the exact order that the songs play in, but they are named with where they occur, so use the file names as a guideline and figure out how each sound is played. :Csha_VII:
