Left 4 Dead 2 + Windows 8 Crash

Hey Im new to the forums!! Just bought Windows 8 Pro x64 and installed steam + Left 4 Dead 2. Whenever I launch this game it plays the startup vid, displays the loading screen and then crashes to desktop without an error!! All my graphics drivers and Windows updates are installed. Can ANYBODY please shed some light on this matter?

I had the same problem. All i did was verify the game files from the properites menu and it seemed to work fine. Hope that helps.

I got the same issue with xp pro and i backed up the files hopein it would restore it but same issue still.

From what I've gathered, I believe that sometimes Steam won't download certain files necessary for L4D2 to play nice with Windows 8. As beast said, try Verifying the Game Files, I'm pretty sure that will solve your issue.

valve sadi them selves that most steam products wont do on windows 8 because gabe newell turned a eye to the look of it, so that means most games wont work.

And your correct theres no point in windows 8 thats why its $49.99 simply becasue its cheap and crappy i need to bring up some basic ♥♥♥♥, why'd they make a GUI thats fantastically shi

hahaha well its the first genuine os ive owned thanks to the "correct" pricing and, well, i kinda like it!! Anyways back to the meat and potatoes, thanks to those who mentioned that I needed to verify the game files!! It downloaded a 7mb update and from there on my L4D2 worked flawlessly!! So thank you all once again for your swift help!! :) now just actually finding an online game would be the dessert.... ;)

hey guys i did the thing you say and it didnt worked at all i verify the game files i backed up the files and it tels me that one file wasnt installed why!!!

but if you think like this no one will play on pc because of that and money will stop coming to valve because of the high number of player that have to take w8 because w7 is blocked :/
Probably valve will make games work good either for w8.But on one thing i am whit you,w8 really sucks

Even if I (unwillingly) downloaded all the files again on my fresh install of win8, checked twice my vid card drivers it crashed. Then, after reading this, I did the integrity check and I just completed the first level on single, seems fine.
