Versus Servers Being DDoS'd
This is pretty pathetic, but VS server have been attacked lately by butthurt sore losers and general ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥s. They target the server of someone they don't like and it ruins the game for everyone; pings shoot through the roof and everyone lags out. I'm wondering if Valve has any plans to do anything about this, or is there anything that users can do in the meantime to protect themselves from this BS?

Just happened to me. Close game and it got DDOS'd while my te4am was survivers. "Magically" went down when the other team was survivors.

Had a group of losers DDOS the server on Dark Carnival on the first map, no less. We hadnt even gotten to the motel yet. We were infected first and hit them hard, killing 3 and when it was our turn they hadnt even hit us by the bridge. All of a sudden tell-tale signs of a DDOS, and welp.. you know the rest.

I've been complaining lately about the drastic increase in rage-quiting lately, but i'd take that idiocy over DDOS any day.

I don't know what you are talking about.

The few times I've seen people DoS a server (it only takes one person spamming a L4D server to disable it, not a Distributed attack from many computers which is much harder to pull off), they were in the server and using it to their advantage. They would pin a survivor with a hunter, for example, then lag the server so badly that nobody could move. Meanwhile, the hunter damage continues to stack until the aforementioned survivor is dead and the DoS is disabled like nothing happened. I've also seen people leave servers out of rage claiming they will DoS it, then follow through and make the game unplayable for everyone left. I've never personally experienced targeted DoS attacks that follow people around, but I'm positive it happens because it's not that hard to track L4D2 player names.

There is no "meantime" for this problem. If Valve intended to fix it, they would have done so years ago when they were first made aware of the problem by concerned community members. Blocking one IP connection that's spamming a server with bad requests can't be too hard, otherwise there wouldn't already be SourceMod plugins that solve this issue.

I don't want to go all Kanye up in here, but Valve doesn't care about L4D. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIUzLpO1kxI

last time I completed a night of games was over the free weekend.

After that it's been a non stop Lag fest.

(Unless you pick the servers that use the mod to avoid this, or use local server)
