Xbox 360 Headset on Ubuntu 12.04
I'm new to Linux, so forgive my ignorance, but is there a way to get the Xbox 360 Headset to work in Ubuntu? Most of the information I've come across on the internet (via google and ubuntu forums) hasn't said much. I could go out and purchase a microphone, since i use the keyboard and mouse instead of the controller anyway, but I was hoping I wouldn't have to spend any money by using what I've already got. Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure if the xbox 360 headset will work in Ubuntu. I can tell you however, that at the moment NO mic works in L4D2, this is an ongoign bug that we are waiting on a fix for.

The bug report was open 5 months ago and has been assigned to "alfred-valve" and there has been multiple reports confirming this bug(I was one), but, we have yet to recieve ANY news on a fix coming. In fact, we have not even recieved an aknowledgement that he has even looked at the bug.....

Here is the bug report if your interested....

Sorry I could not be of more help, maybe someone know if/how to get yor headset working, I do not, I only wanted to let you know of this bug so you don't buy a mic just for L4D2 and find out it down't work.

well there is no support for xbox360 head-sets but there is a driver that may work. go to http://pingus.seul.org/~grumbel/xboxdrv/ and go down to Binary Package Download and install then go to http://pingus.seul.org/~grumbel/xboxdrv/xboxdrv.html and go down tell you see Headset Options. this is experimental and is for Xbox360 USB only. well i hope this helps you.

Thanks for the heads up, doogie. I've got L4D2 on my windows partition, so I'll probably just keep using that until they get it fixed. I'm definitely glad that I waited before I went out and purchased a new microphone.

Thanks you as well, MrxSNIPES. I am actually using the wireless 360 controller that I keep charged with the plug & play adapter so the controller won't die on me while I'm in the middle of a game. I think I might just have to keep playing it on my windows partition until there's better support for the headset and/or L4D2 is out of beta. I'm glad that you responded though, since your reply will hopefully help someone else out who's in the the same predicament that I'm in.
