Is it possible to choose unmodded servers?
I'm not only talking about the obviously modded servers where you pick your own infected and survivors buy gear but also ones where "cheating" is allowed. I really love this game but I'm putting it on the shelf for a while because of all the aimbotting and sprinting around that goes on every single match.

For the naysayers, search youtube for cheats. I've had people one shot one kill me while playing a hunter pouncing from behind cover over a building and I've watched as people have cleared hordes of commons with dozens of consecutive headshots from pistols. It finally dawned on me why so many survivors were "pro" enough to run 100's of yards ahead of the other three survivors and never get picked off.

You can call it cheating or modded servers or whatever you'd like but it does completely ruin the game for me.

Either use openserverbrowser and check for official servers there or join lobbies and leave if they're not set to official.

And aimbotting and speedhacks are really rare, you're probably just mistaking good players for cheating >_>
As Bikes said, use official servers.
Type openserverbrowser in console
Set filters to not empty/full/pass and ping <150
Select a server that is not modded
Click connect
i hate mod servers, mods will not make it fun, the game is the same but only a mess.

i wish there was a simple option to choose the official ones.

If I play for a few hours at a time I will see at least one speedhack (they're super obvious). It goes beyond good, like I'll spawn behind a corner after someone just ran past, and as soon as I breach the corner they headshot me with a single round from a pistol.

You do know that a lot of the infected are really obvious when they spawn, especially if you're spawning as say a boomer.
The bandwagon of hate about mods should be reconsidered. Because mods aren't just for making the game stupid or being so said OP, they are plugins out there making things 10x more harder (Aside promod which is barely different from vanilla, just forcing people to rush more), good players are often know to be hackers because they play the cheap way(Ex: HR spam, 1 shot weapons or so). Just to say in my experience, i've never seen someone challenge itself to something harder than usual. Left 4 Dead 2 is an easy game when you have proper cover and awareness, nothing more not even skills should be considered. Regular gameplay is OP because of the freedom of ressources, like getting 4 melee's, 4 ak's that's game for infected, no skill at all.

A average player can just go around with an HR/MR, either do bodyshots or HS because it's easy with them.

We get used to the height of characters however, as much for another example i can rush a horde with HS's only with dual pistols, because every zombies have the same height, it's not nerdy thing but good compensation of the situation players get in.

You can tell a player to not spray, he'll still spray. This is why everyone use's the HR/MR, these weapons aren't skills but more like lazyness.

IMO, some should lighten up and understands their lack of confidence for real weapons. AR's and SMG's are the hard way to play. They can spray, but they can also semi-auto and act just like long range rifles with a higher degree of difficulty without a scope, as ironically some modded servers have nothing but CS:S weapons which features bolt weapons that can truly display skills. It's sad people hate blindly.
I tried setting up a custom server and I've noticed that if you start adding in anti-cheat plugins it won't let you join the VAC servers as it will ask for you to run -insecure. However, after a game ends, I've noticed that I'll be "tossed around" to other servers which I'm now no longer sure are VAC servers. Makes me think that it went off the dedicated servers to somebody's custom server. How would I know if I'm still on a valid server? Usually the custom servers give you menu options, although they're not always with people cheating if the anti-cheat mods are enabled.

I was trying to setup an anti-cheat non-dedicated server but it's not easy. Will probably need to try something simple first before messing with that.

EDIT: Just so everyone knows, I did choose Dedicated Servers & have found myself on several modded servers along with people running cheats without any issues. I don't understand how I'm connecting to a server that states it's dedicated when it isn't.

We DO need a "only vanilla" option, or something like this. I have nothing against mods - but I want to play a standart game! Is it ask too much?

Besides, with so many mods, we never know the rules of the server! One of them spawns 20k life tanks. The other, the smocker's smoke damage us. There's a third - wich allow us to buy laser sights, and we have triple ammo. It's awfull to enter a server - and just leave.

With thousands of mods, I understand the impossibility of filtering by them - but a vanilla button would be great...

There is a server browser you can find into custom menu's such as the urik one, however. There is no filter that quotes no modded server sadly, as well the internet servers cannot be display free, the only things you'll is the history. This could be useful if you're in a bad need of a good latency and vanilla.
Use the server browser. I can't believe people still want to play the vanilla version of a game that's four years old. Don't you get sick of vanilla after the first few hundred hours?

^^^^^
The game is 4 years old. It is dying.

Mod groups like mine and Mr Sagans are trying to add new stuff to the game to prolong it and keep it interesting, play it long enough and most people do change over to uA / DLR / Confogl / eVil mAnia / MaxSlot ect servers.

Well, I still don't have hundreds of playtime on this game. :D

The server browser doesn't show me wich ones are modded. At least, not that I know of. Is there some way?
Pinion and Valve named are usually clean.

Search for servers that have the "official" tag.
