Game needs to warn you when people override the server selection.
I understand it can be useful and not every server admin is going to cheat but it's tiring that you can legally cheat (as in no VAC ban) if you pay out for your own server. The community in this game is one of the worst, adding banning of other players was a good start.

He said server override, AKA the person will leave on official but it will redirect the lobby to any server the person wants. And I agree, it should at least not work while official is selected.

Legally cheat?

Wat.

Just because a server has features different from vanilla gameplay doesn't necessitate it as "cheating".

Btw, sometimes people may select a server loadout as 'official dedicated' but use mm_dedicate_force_servers [ip]. Sometimes, a certain server doesn't have a steam group set up.

How about this: instead of complaining and saying that there should be a warning given by valve should they press a macro to join a server they (the lobby leader) want, maybe type the words "Are you heading into a modded server" within the chat box?

Wouldn't make sense to VAC ban someone using a custom or modded server. VAC bans (in L4D2) are for actually cheating, as in injecting some sort of code in the game files during gameplay (I don't understand the details).

If someone is paying for a server that they own, then they have a right to do what they want in L4D2 gameplay. As long as they don't cheat in competitions (vs tournaments, obtaining survival records), I don't think it's a problem, since L4D2 is designed for casual gameplay anyway.

I understand VAC would be wrong way to go about it, I never called for that.

Did you mean to say "is designed for casual gameplay" or "isn't"?

I'm not saying they shouldn't be allowed to do whatever they want in their server, I just want a warning that the lobby I joined that said it was official dedicated is actually going to be a server one of the other players has complete control over, including the possibility that they'll abuse their self embued powers.

What I meant by legally cheating, as dustin pointed out. You obviously don't get banned for playing on modded servers (which isn't something I'm complaining about). This means that you could install a mod so that you could do things would which give you an unfair advantage (this is typically the definition of "cheating"). For instance you could use your admin powers to spawn a tank when you're infected and pretend the server must have glitched when it doesn't turn up the next round, etc, etc.

I hope this has cleared up the confusion you had.

If I'd paid out a monthly subscription for a server just so I could cheat, I doubt I'd answer truthfully.

How about this: instead of complaining and saying that I should ask cheaters to be honest, you accept that it's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ idea?
