I'm planning on upgrading, after 4 beautiful years my laptop is finally starting to show its age.
Mind you, it has been showing its age for all of those 4 beautiful years, but still.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Sure it does, i can play with an amd e-350 procesor, amd radeon hd6310 graphics card and 2gb ddr3 ram. No more than 40 fps with my specs, but i dont mind.
It looks pretty decent, but if you're investing in a gaming desktop, you're better off building your own. I had one with i7 processor, 16 gb ram, geforce 650 gpu for around $600 or so.
If my 3-4 year old £800 computer can play l4d2 on max, I'm sure that will cope perfectly.

My friend had a single core 3.4, 2gb ram, and 9800 gt-ee and he was able to run it just fine. So yeah, that computer should have 0 problems running this.
The specs look OK ... but I wouldn't buy a HP Pavillion.
If you are able to build a gaming computer yourself or know someone who is, build it yourself.

Pavillion series is shiny outside and crap inside most of the time.
That gfx card is embedded, and only has 128 bit DDR3 with 30GB/s of memory bandwith, unless you intend on running the game at 1280x720 resolution and low to (maybe medium) gfx settings you are better off avoiding this pc for l4d2 (which is frankly an old game, if you insist on getting this pc and you wanted to play other games that are newer and more demanding you would have more chance of towing a 747 with a bike).

Stay away from it, get a custom built pc from a pc shop with a proper gfx card (not embedded / onboard / intergrated) - would work out the same price or cheaper and be faster and able to play games without having to sacrafice the gfx or resolution.
Right now I'm playing 640x480 on low everything and high priority and still lagging.
Honestly & thankfully, I'm blessed with not being able to see bad graphics and even low fps, about 20 seems rather smooth to me, but when you go 10 fps on a minor horde on all rock bottom settings with 2 fps configs, just about ANYTHING is an improvement.
It might even be lower than 10 fps, that's just the lowest net_graph shows.
