Joins game > Kicked
I've been trying to make a start on Left 4 Dead for a while; I bought it in a Chrimbo sale and forgot all about it XD Sadly, every time I try to play a game, I get thrown all manner of hate mail and insults - where people replace every second word with a swear of some kind usually - and kicked for the first mistake. I'm not great at shooters, but I enjoy L4D with my friends offline because people are supposed to support you, so it's a shame the online community wants to get rid of anyone who isn't Mr Perfect from the word "Go." Out of roughly 50 full/half games I've played, only 2 have had friendly players. I've even been put in a Steam group where the admins only invite people who are "terrible" and see fit to tell people to "go die" because of it.

Is the L4D/Valve community really this bad? It's enough to put me off the game altogether.

1. You have a public profile showing you have a tiny amount of hours.
2. You have a public profile showing you are a member of 2 furry groups.
3. You are probably playing VS or Scavenge, when you are nowhere near ready.
3A. Which is fine, just don't whine when you get kicked/taunted.

Hide your profile, (people check that in lobby most times) play camps for a while longer, and stop making these threads.

Profile is now private, but I've previously read how easy it is to overide the privacy settings. Also, yet to play Scavenge, but the warning helps. Other than that, this was a first thread, not exactly the warmest welcome... all to be expected in the anonymous world of the internet.

When the more experienced players say to play more camps, or camps for certain amount of time, it's for a reason broheim.

It lets you learn the maps, (you need this for VS) it lets you learn to dead stop, (VS!) skeet, (VS!) prioritize targets for death/aid, (oh god yes VS) but more importantly in camps is where the friendliest people tend to hang out. I love this game, and regret nothing but if you want cuddlebumps then you should play camps. After so many hours/friends if you want to be challenged and have enough experience/thick skin in the game to play VS, then go at it.

Fair warning though, playing VS does make you kind of a jerk. It does the same to most people, and I nor my friends are immune it seems, lol.

One tip I can say is play easy or normal level difficulties until you get better. Stay away from realism and expert because that's where people really need to depend on their teammates to be good and quick with their reflexes.

play more campagins learn how to deadstop hunters and jockeys and skeet also important. (most important tip->) HEAR just hear the sounds the special infected do so you know what's coming in your way, don't get lost on campaigns wait for the last second to respawn as infected so they wouldn't have time to hear/realize your there and other than that just have a sence of opportunity above all have fun only play versus when you have more than enough experience and if you have a tough skin I only play versus sometimes it happens you fail or ♥♥♥♥ up but no one wants to lose due to that noob teamate

Ignore the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥s that shout abuse at you and kick you. Sadly the community isn't that friendly, but there are some nice people out there. I honestly don't think shooters in general have very friendly communities, not just L4D. Everyone's too far up their own ♥♥♥♥ they think everyone else is ♥♥♥♥ and they're not afraid to say it. Just ignore it, keep practising and soon you'll be able to kick all their asses :)

Just don't touch versus and you will be fine. No, really, never touch versus. I'm dead serious. Play on easy/medium campaign or mutations and you should be fine. You aren't missing much in versus/scavenge, really. Basically it's just a rushrage fest with no competitive value at all.
And don't hide your profile. You don't need to. You shouldn't feel ashamed if you have low hours. Remember, everyone had low hours at some point. That didn't stop people playing the game, which is mindless fun. Try to bring some friends with you. At least 1. That way you can't be kicked even if you run across some idiots.

Oh, and try to ignore btards like Mad, they are just mad.

Ignore the two above, if you want to be good enough for VS, those people are what you must rise above. :3

Ive met some of the best/brightest in this game and those who say "gah noone nice plays this game" probably has a list of social disorders as long as my arm.

Mad and Tater aren't /b/ros. They're just try hards, like nearly all of the self-proclaimed pros in this game that usually suck. I can't say how many times I've played with arrogant people like them that get owned or they're just useless and try to pin their failures on others. I got kicked last night because the enemy team got wrecked, but one took off running and almost made it to the safe room. I was about 30 yds away and couldn't catch up because I was a charger, and didn't want to waste my charge only to miss and die, but a teammate spawned in as a hunter and caught up to pounce on the enemy. I punched at the same time, just to speed it up, and I got the incap. The kid immediately said, "16 hours?" vote kick, check, check, gone. I knew he was mad cause I got the incap though. Poor kid.
