Where have they all gone?
Over the last few days I've noticed a serious decline in advance and expert L4D2 games being created on STEAM. I wonder if this has anything to do with the over the top, rediculous difficulty settings that Valve has introduced? Also, for pretty much the first time ever since the game came out, I have not been able to complete one campain with a group of people, on expert. That's saying something, I think. And no it's not saying that I suck, for all you ready to pounce flamers out there. People are just giving up and quiting in frustration, because they see how stupid and futile it is to try and complete. The most obvious thing that I've notice is the double and triple SI attacks taking place, then followed right up with another double SI attack right after...and an all of a sudden hoard from out of nowhere. If everyone doesn't die at that point, they're going to in the next encounter. Your motivation runs out pretty quickly when you start to see that the odds are so stacked against you, that you start to say "Meh...frack it, lets go play something else." Not a good way to push your game forward fellas. Now watch...all the replies will be from people saying how easy the game is, and how I suck, and how great they are, but wish that their weapons were a bit more nerfed. Pfft

Don't know why you started another thread when it is almost the same as in link above. But i guess I will say this yet again.

Yes the game got harder. But not to the point where it is impossible. I went through Expert again on Single Player after the update. Was nothing to really complain about. I do not know when, where, why and or how you are getting killed there SiM0N. But it is nothing to really change back to.

It could also be the human element. This community is bad all around. Not just VS, but in Campaign as well. I guess when people are forced to adapt to the game & try harder when the game gets harder, they take the easy way out instead of working harder to get through.
What did they change exactly to make it harder? I play Realism Expert and don't see any difference..

Here is a list of all the things I have noticed:

- Common infected spawning in large numbers in safe houses during map horde events. Most obvious ones that come to my mind are Blood Harvest 3. Where the bridge breaks down. Blood Harvest 4. The train car safe house can have common spawn if you break line of sight. Or even closing the safe house door when no one is inside. Since that breaks line of sight, imagine my surprise when I looked into the safe house. Then heard dozens of common spawn in there when I shut the door. Another example is the end safe house on Death Tool 4. When rushing to the safe house. Again if no player line of sights the inside the safe house, lots of zombies will spawn & attack you.

- Special Infected spawn faster. And come out in more numbers. Expect campaign to somewhat mirror VS. As it is no longer suprising to see 3 SI's come at you now. And ANY combination. I even witnessed the directer spawn 2 Boomers together. Just to vomit on the survivors. Or even 1 hunter, 1 Jockey, & 1 Smoker to try to kill 3 survivors.

This game got harder? I didn't even notice. Just play with three friends - or play it solo, if you can manage.

Yeah things have changed, for better or worse depending on your perspective. I guess I welcome it, keeps the game interesting to me beyond any game I have played.

Forgive me if I waste your time here Chet. But could you please go into more detail of " difficulty "? In regards to the mode of difficulty. Yes. Easy, Normal, Advanced & Expert damage against the survivors has NOT changed. Let me go on record to say that I ADMIT that fact.

But what SiM0N & some of us have said, is there is other elements that made the game harder. Spawning more common infected in more areas of the map when before they did not. And having special infected attack more often & in more numbers. And I am not the only one that has witnessed this. When we had some Friends Only campaign games on Advanced we noticed this as well.

Don't get me wrong. IF a change happened I am enjoying it. I truely believe L4D 2 needed a extra dose of " challenge " to the Campaign mode. And my family & friends agree that something to keep human players on there toes was needed as well.

Probably less people playing pub games on Expert because of the amount of griefers. My last 2 games with a friend there was a griefer right at the beginning both games. One of them was spiteful enough to keep rejoining every 5-10 min (thanks for that temp kick duration Valve) to try and grief us. Suffice to say that person wasted a good 20-30 minutes of our playing so we didn't have the time to finish it.

Why the heck isn't it a permenant blacklist on that person if you kick them from your game? Not all of us use/have personal servers to perma ban. So yeah, it kind of puts me off from playing in pubs because of a-holes.

I have to agree there has been a change. My friends and I play Hard 8 A LOT and, after the update, we suddenly found the game extremely difficult in a way it had not felt before. We were gettign it handed to us in places that had previously not been as problematic. So despite the commentary from Chet, who has been very good to us here; something has definately changed in the land of Zomb.
Wow! Thank you everyone. This has been a great thread conversation. I like it. Anyway, off topic for Zelphyre: My experience is that if the griefer (TK'r) jumps out of the game before your kick vote goes through...that person will be able to rejoin until you nail his, or her nutz to the wall with a completed vote. Oh wait...bad analogy. Anyway, you could do what I do and create a block list. It's incredible that I find so many players don't know of this. Just do the following:

Hit shift tad to bring up the console.

Hit the view players tab,

You may have to hit the recent games tab as well.

Click on the person's profile.

To the right of their profile is a button tagged MORE,

Click on it and select block all communications.

Be sure to confirm at the end.

Whalla! They can no longer enter your universe,

unless they have multiple accounts.

Chet, Let me be clear, I wasn't referring to the difficulty of making kills. I was pointing to the increase of SI visitations, showing up in two's and three's, and more often. Some of the stuff I've witnessed in the game lately just makes my jaw drop and just sit there and laugh at it. Leave it the way it is...lets see what happens.
