Crashing on Launch

I can't get anywhere with this. I hear the first note of the Valve intro, and then it crashes.

I've tried 3 different video drivers, including 1 beta one.

I've verified the game cache to no prevail.

I've deleted and then reinstalled the whole game, no luck.

So... anyone have any ideas?

try run hl2.exe as admin, see whether it solve o no

Hello! since few days I can no longer play to l4d 1 and 2 because it freeze on the Home screen, the menu.
I read that other people had this problem (due to update or steam valve)!
you have an idea of resolution please?
on the same computer I tested with Windows XP and Windows 7 (not the same nvidia drivers), but it is the same, the game does not crash when I'm offline on steam by cons

Close steam then delete the following files from your steam folder.

AppUpdateStats.blob
ClientRegistry.blob

Then restart steam. See if that fixes the issue.

backup it if not sure what you doing

No luck with this attempt either.

I've found out that I'm able to launch the L4D2 Beta w/o an issue.

Also, if it's of any use information wise, when I try to run hl2.exe as an admin I'm getting an error: "Setup file 'gameinfo.txt' doesn't exist in subdirectory 'hl2'. Check your -game parameter or VCONFIG setting."

worked for me and the user Crazudoo, I just leave all my steam groups and the game is working perfectly
