About modded servers.
So, the game has been out for about 8 years now, and some of you are still whining about modded servers, some of you have even been banned from my server for causing outbursts. If you turn your attention to this little option on the lobby you join that says "Steam Group Server" it usually means the server is modded.

That does not mean wait till you get in game then kick and scream over the mic or chat like an infant wanting their bottle. If you don't want to play on a modded server, then don't stay. Most of the players that have been banned on my server are of adult age, eighteen years and older. Most of them are American, go figure.

If you happen to get into mine or anyone elses modded server, do yourself a favor, try to find some dignity and respect for yourself, and leave without a fuss, unless you want to actually play on said server, then by all means enjoy yourselves.

Did you count early stages, or just release?

Preach truth! There are tons of pre-2k hr folk who don't understand that modded servers bring variety and uniqueness to an otherwise mechanized and very bland game. Yet if you were to ask these same folk about what they'd like to see differently in the game, they would respond with 20 responses- stronger witches, climbing, to be like the AI Director, to be able to run faster, shoot harder. Then these same folk jump on a server with those exact plugins and they whine and complain about the server being modded. For some people, there is just no pleasing.

It's actually quite funny.

I host a hard eight modded server; I love the intensity and sheer insanity of multiple specials and hordes spawned by tanks, witches being scared and nonstop boomers; I get maybe 10+ players per game that come in and feel the need to just complain "Omg, another modded server! rawrgarbble!"

It's all fun and games to me though; sometimes, I put freezebomb on them, or slap them around a little bit, or just flat out slay them. The majority of them will instantly leave right after they complain though. They remind me of people on facebook that see a page they don't like and somehow feel the need to like the page in order to comment on the page to tell those people just how they feel about the page which they detest. It's a vicious circle! Ahh!

Even with big red words on a black background that says "This server is intended for experienced players and is modded", I get the questions "Is this server modded?" Hurr durr durr. Nothing but lols here.

You know, its elitists like you that people complain about. "pre-2k hr"? so what, just because someone only has a couple hundred hours makes them not matter?
For the record, I like modded servers. it's the people that play them that I hate. kicking people just based on time played is stupid and ♥♥♥♥es a lot of people off. if i want to play a modded server, great. i shouldn't have to have a perfect run every single time just to please elitist ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥s who think they're better than everyone else.
The reason that people complain about modded servers is because lately, unless you create your own lobby, the game has a nasty habit of droppping you into a mod even when you want a regular game. I tried using only official dedicated and got dumped into a mod 4 times in a row before i found a normal server.

Tons out of how many pre-2k hours players? I've only got 192 hours now and LOVE modded servers. Where would I be without mods? I love community-made stuff of almost any sorts. And if you think my bond with mods on L4D2 sounds strong, damn my bond to TF2 mods... wow...

Back on topic, the rest of your post I totally agree with. Totally. Couldn't be more correct. If I somehow do not like the mods on a server, I'd just leave.

{{"You know, its elitists like you that people complain about. "pre-2k hr"? so what, just because someone only has a couple hundred hours makes them not matter?"

You seem to misunderstand, those pre- 2k hour players are newer to the franchise, and probably do not expect there to be modded servers nor do they want to play on them because they havn't played the official servers first. Don't assume, it makes and ♥♥♥ out of you and yourself.}}

{{"For the record, I like modded servers. it's the people that play them that I hate. kicking people just based on time played is stupid and ♥♥♥♥es a lot of people off."

Once again you think we kick for that reason? We don't, we kick them because they whine and complain causing an outburst on the server, then they commit suicide as the survivor which ruins the experience for everyone else.}}

{{"The reason that people complain about modded servers is because lately, unless you create your own lobby, the game has a nasty habit of droppping you into a mod even when you want a regular game. Because this is our fault. I totally agree, Valve not making a better Filter is us, the players and the server hosts fault. Your wisdom baffles me sir, please, tell me more.}}

{{"You know, its elitists like you that people complain about."

We are in no way elitests, I myself try to help the player by explainning over my mic about the server, I get half way through the sentence, "Eight witches spawn each with 80k health", and they flip out on me. Elitest? No. Tired of disrespectful children? You have no friggen idea.}}

Oh boy! Looks like my elitist attitude really rubbed someone the wrong way! Rawr!

It's true though. Most of the players who I've come across have -2k hrs and don't understand anything about modded servers or get all confused whenever "vanilla" is mentioned. It's not an insult, it's an observation. Don't get all huffy about it. Personally, I don't really kick players unless they demonstrate the inability to type or read. After a general inquire, that's when the slaps/firebombs/freezebombs and other such fun stuff begins.

And, look, you're getting mad at me for being elite (when I'm really not, I just like playing with people who are legit but yearning to play with legit players might be elitst to today's standards so who the hell knows?), but Elites gotta ELITE, bro!

Anyways, if you're having problems finding non-modded servers, just as you're finding, you can't rely upon the 'server preferrence' choices because that's all it really is- it's a "I'd rather have this as a server choice" mechanism. If you want to find a server that's specifically valve orientated and non-modded, enable your console, type "openserverbrowser", go to the CUSTOM section, and there you'll find a list of servers in which you can discover whatever server you want to play to your hearts content. Can't tell which one has which? So then right-click on a server, get server info (*specifically the IP of the server*), go to whatever your favorite search engine is, paste IP of the server into the engine, and a list should pop up that demonstrates which plugins (if any) a server has. You'll find them in "server variables".

You're welcome.

This thread is quite displaying people ignorance into this community. While aiming at the stackers/elitist/fogl, at most people believe that everything that doesn't have t1 only is garbage and ignores completely the concept of the idea. Whilst they could be missing something nice, only those who participated the promod config creation gets to have all the respect. Such as the new witchparty, anything else just getting ignored. We can all agree some modded servers can have lots of pointless stuff, but others can push the limits of the game to the best without removing the whole fun.

I'm also a person that host, my server gets often some nice reviews from people that can enjoy challenge and variety, but otherwise. The "pro" community doesn't seem to agree with any change there. Love this thread.

Well I might say something like "Ima leaving this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, cya'll" before leaving, but not much else. If I do rage on a modded server, it will be because I was TKed or something.
