If you have Fraps or a similar screen recording program, feel free to take this on.

Play Singleplayer -> Survival on the map 'Bridge', and simply survive for 9 minutes without using a Pipe Bomb.

Rules:
No hacking/modding/exploiting.
Must record everything, then upload it to Youtube.
As soon as you hop down the ledge with the ladder, you cannot climb back up.

Rewards: One of the following gifts:

Portal
Left 4 Dead 2 (low violence version)

What are the restrictions on modding? Like are simple things like crosshair changes and simple glow changes accepted or do you want it completely vanilla?

Crosshair changes are fine.

So long as there's nothing that affects the gameplay.

[edit] updated rules. The moment you hop down the ledge at the start (to get where the radio is), no going back up, you're down there for good.

A few questions:

1) Would it be enough to record the demo? I'm not sure my computer can handle both, L4D2 and Fraps, at the same time.
2) What about moving weapons/supplies?

I hardly ever play Survival so I'm not perfectly sure what the definition of "exploit" is in this case as the community has their own rules. I assume it's using spots where no infected can reach you, but maybe there's something I'm not aware of.

Define singleplayer. Does that just mean with bots? Or do I have to kick bots as well?

Also on that note, by hop down the ledge with the ladder, does that mean I can start the round by hitting the radio and go up there but if I come down from there after having gone up there initially I'm not allowed back up, or am I not allowed to use the bridge area at all once I've started the round?

Another thing just popped into my head. So no pipebombs are allowed. What about bile, molotovs or gas cans are they all acceptable?

Try OBS[obsproject.com] then, it's fairly lightweight and is highly customisable in terms of output quality.

Is the version you have of L4D2 the normal version or low violence? (I noticed you're also from Australia).

I'm not familiar with recording demos. I'm running a similar challenge on the CS:S Board and someone mentioned a good editor can make it look like they won. I suppose as long as you record the whole thing without any cuts (and I'm convinced it's unedited), then it can pass.

As for moving weapons, if by dropping & re-equipping, sure, but no moving Supplies. No moving via Modding or whatever either.

Bots are allowed.

As for hopping down the ledge, no, you're not allowed to use the bridge area. Once you hop off/climb down the ladder, there's no going back up, and you have to trigger the radio & survive the lower level for 9 minutes.

Pipe-Bombs are not allowed, but everything else is.

I was interested in L4D2 for a friend, but I guess she would be a little disappointed to get the low violence version. I'll partake, nonetheless, just for fun :)

So moving supplies like molotovs/adrenaline by drop/reequip is not allowed? I'm fine with that - even though I find it strange to make a difference between moving weapons & supplies. Is there a specific reason?

We didn't mention it, but I assume moving fuel cans is elementary and always allowed.

I really appreciate this endeavour and maybe there is a possibility to make this more often. Not necessarily with anything as a reward.

The Adrenaline & Painkillers are the only things on the bridge you can't take down. Everything else, including Gas Tanks is fine. Don't think this is possible unless you tactically place every Gas/Fuel Tank you can find.

fraps is one of those programs that shouldn't even be mentioned for recording video, its inefficient which is why it has such a crippling footprint, dxtory with the picvideo codec offers equal image quality not even close to the resource usage and the files are half the size.
