What is up with this community?
Seriously, every time I play me and my friends get barraged with ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥s, ♥♥♥♥♥es and ragers. They constantly try to kick us and each other, regardless of how the current game is going. Worse yet are the kids who create scripts to spam endlessly. Honestly, I struggle to enjoy this game (especially in Versus/Realism which I love).

Is that really what the community has gone to? I haven't experienced much of that.
Sadly, Versus is regularly the habitat of the serious players, and they go nuts if you screw up. I'd recommend finding a group of people who play casually and play primarily with them. There really are good people hidden among the community, but sometimes you have to go through a bunch of people who aren't quite as awesome.

For every friendly person, you sadly have to wade through 30 or more that aren't.

It's really frustrating. I've already logged 22+ hours and i can honestly say every single hour of play has had at least 1 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in the game. It makes my friends almost refuse to play Versus with me

In my opinion the Left 4 Dead 2 player base is:

5% Underage "hardcore" gamers
25% Rage'ers
50% Troll'ers
5% Beginners
14.5% People who take the game too seriously
0.5% Good friendly people

The odds are stacked against you sadly (and me). Better fold your hand, rather than play through this staked card game friend.

The problem is playing versus with someone who's new to the game isn't particularly fun for the more experienced players (22 hours in this game ain't much). You're probably making dumb mistakes without realizing it and it will annoy people because this game is so team heavy that it's brings everyone else down.
Your best bet is either a full team of friends or to just suck it up till you get better, it's just the nature of the game. Also if you don't have a mic get one, showing that you're trying to learn and communicating properly helps people's impression of you. If you're completely silent there's no real reason to keep you over a bot.

The community is generally divided into two groups:
a) Elitists who refuse to teach or even play with new players.
b) New Players who refuse to learn or ask for help (The "Don't tell me how to play, I've played for years, I'm just here to kill zombies" mentality).

So every so often you see a new player who is a true gamer interested in improving himself get absolutely demoralized about playing the game any further. What is left is a cesspool of bad players who think they're god's gift to public games and bad mannered players who just troll and throw insults while kicking players.

If you want to learn, find a patient mentor (like myself) and ask to play with them. Join lobbies first, not QuickMatch games. And yes there will be a lot of baddies to filter through

Blame Valve who wont punish the idiots. What reason to the idiots have to stop if there arent any punishments for their actions?

Its really the lack of any type of ladder, skill, or experience system combined with magnified egos that prevents this game from flourishing. I can understand elitist players who refuse to teach or play with baddies, but I cannot understand the new players who refuse to learn things, communicate, or accept criticism in a video game.

I 100% agree with Nate on this. I use the user misconduct report for people that come in & grief / troll games. Valve needs to be more active with these & punish accordingly. And it should not be hard either. Most of my public games & even friends games are on the official dedicated servers. And i am pretty sure it's not hard to use the in - game movie player either to record the acts of bad behavior.

Although Valve has put the blocking system in place, it's heavily flawed. And definitely outweighs the benefits. Admins getting blocked from there own servers. Friends getting troll'd cause I have blocked someone, but they haven't. It really is sad when your block list has more users on it than your friends list. In the end, the blocking system does not solve the " root " problems. And everyone ( including Valve ) needs to know about this. And acknowledge it.

I rather steam support work on tickets than user misconduct, valve is already understaffed for this sort of thing as it is, and going through this sort of thing proabbly takes a large amount of time that isn't worth it since they proabbly won't do anything unless extreme cases.
Plus It greifing comes on different levels, most greifs I see is because they got locked into some stupid server with terrible mods and no way to vote to lobby, I honestly don't blame people for that, the idiot that brought them to that server deserves a big middle finger, but they might get annoyed and report.
Hell once one of my teams mates was proudly boosted how he was going to shoot us all once we reach where the finale takes place, so I shot him in the safe room and the jerk kicked me (I should note we where going to win regardless)
TLDR version: Would be a waste of resources, greifing isn't that out of control, rage quitting is the only real issue.

My friends and I honestly don't like getting a newbie in a match, but we will take the time to teach them. However, if they have no mic and refuse to type.. then it's a kick. Refuse to listen or communicate? Kick time. Take the tank out in the middle of the survivors and bat at them like a kitten, despite being asked 10 times to not do just that? That's a kick.

The problem with people complaining about elitists when they are new, is every situation looks different to every party involved. The above situations have happened often with newbies, and only after the kick goes up do they type or communicate for the first time. The newbie sees it as "I don't have a mic and don't know the default chat keys" or "I was busy learning", where the more seasoned player just sees yet another newbie who jumps into the game and then refuses to learn or listen to advice from those who aren't new.

And it's an attitude like that that makes this game unbearable. I have a mic, and I'm pretty good at the game. However, I don't always talk just because I don't feel like it. It's a game. There's no ranking, there's no stats. There's games I try in. There's also games I just feel like shooting. Just because someone else is having more fun than you is not a reason to kick them.

And that's my exact situation. I have a mic, and I do work with my team (My Skype group of three, for L4D2). However, whenever we split up and try to have fun fighting each other, complete ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥s destroy our server.

And to Spacecataz, I don't make stupid mistakes like running up to a tank with a melee weapon, but I also don't know the tricks that the elitists with 300+ hours know. I don't think that's worthy of vote kicking from them.

The situations described above are where they are CLEARLY messing up, and will not respond in ANY WAY. If you are being asked to not do something in vs, and yet you do it anyway, then on top of that dont communicate even a "screw you" in chat, then you are going bye bye. You have just proven you dont want to learn, and like you said you don't care about other players.

I don't care what YOU like to do, when you join my team you are supposed to support and communicate with the team. If you want to herp derp however you please then play single player or coop with friends. My friends and I have helped a metric ton of new players with achievements, and vs help. Just because I don't have an endless supply of patience for people on the internet hardly makes me a person with a bad attitude.

รקคςєςคtคz Feb 25, 2013 @ 11:35pm
I should probably add in coop we only kick griefers. I dont want us to come off as jerks. It's just in VS we like to play somewhat seriously. If we kicked every pub or newb that screwed us out of a win, well we'd never play.
