workshop add-ons
does having my add-ons checked on affect how i play in a dedicated or official l4d2 server on VS or campaign. Could it cause lagg or any other issues?

Depending upon what mods you have, some servers may boot you for consistency issues, usually for Special Infected skins and certain scripts. Most official servers are pure, which means you will have vanilla gameplay no matter what mods you have active. If a server has neither consistency or purity, then you can pretty much play with your mods uninhibited.

In terms of lag, it depends upon your computer. If your computer's good, then mods should not cause any issues. If your computer isn't great, then steer clear of HD models and skins, as these will probably harm your frame rate. As far as I know, mods won't cause your ping to increase.

I can't get mine to work in Online play when i create my own private friend only server even though I have some of the Add-ons checked off. They work in Single player mode.
Is there a way for them to work also in on my own Multiplayer game server?

If it is your own server, make sure the server is set for sv_pure 0 and sv_consistency 0. That will let you play with mods.
If you don't control the server, there's not really much you can do. Very few official servers these days are un-pure, so in order to play mods most times you'll have to try a best available dedicated server. A local server will work as well if your connection is good, but you still have to put sv_consistency 0 into the developer console for people to connect.
