Automatically closing
I just installed l4d2 again after not playing for a while and now whenever I try to play it the game automatically closes when trying to load into the menu. Is there a way to fix this

Need more info..

Does it crash in single player?
Does it crash in Multiplayer?
Does it crash on loading screen?
Do you get to see the menu at all?

Do you see the cinematic?

If these are No, might wanna keep an eye out for this thread and try the suggestions, as it sounds like people who are installing the game atm are having this problem. http://steamcommunity.com/app/550/discussions/0/864959336673598252/

I'm having the same issue but on a different level with the Workshop.

L4D2 will either auto close with no message when

A) I join a game, and right when the bar is almost filled to load the actual game, mine will close out with no message

or

B) When playing on a custom map, my game will close out randomly, which I believe to have condensed down to having maps that force a custom tank model while I have one activated from the workshop.

The following has solved this problem for some Vista & Windows 7 users:

Exit Steam.

In Windows, click on the Start button > All Programs > Accessories

Launch the Command Prompt by right clicking on it and choosing "Run As Administrator"

Type in the following command and press enter:

net localgroup Administrators /add Local Service

Then, type in this command and press enter:

net localgroup Administrators NetworkService /ADD

Close the Command Prompt window and restart your computer.

Then, launch the game again.
