Someone plz make a mod to remove ammo piles.
In the commentary, valve said they wanted players to have to switch weapons frequently as they went through, but then they put ammo piles all over the levels. I almost never run out of ammo on my favorite guns so that I would have to tactically consider replacing it rather than waiting until the next ammo pile inevitably comes up. However, after a while I realized that constantly switching guns mixed it up and kept the game experience fresher, as you can't just rely on using your favorite gun that you're comfortable with for the rest of the campaign. I suggest someone make a mod that just removes all ammo piles from the game (and if needed for balance, put an occasional new gun in their place). Of course you can simply not use ammo piles, but I think the game would be much more fun and balanced if you had to switch weapons constantly. Besides, what's more likely to actually happen, finding a gun with some bullets still in it, or finding a pile of ammo that has some mags for every weapon you could possibly be holding except grenades or m60s?

i might be crazy- but i swear that the ammo piles become fewer and fewer the higher the difficulty you put it

surely it is personal preference? if you enjoy switching weapons then great, good for you... if you prefer certain ones then you tend to stick with them and enjoy the game more for it... i personally refuse to use a sniper rifle.. i find them rubbish and much prefer the rat tat tat of my M4 (skinned from l4dmaps)... you would never run out of ammo since your 2ndary weapon has unlimited amounts of it and to be fair once i have a Deagle i rarely use a main weapon ... 1 thing i can suggest to you then which will certainly help you not get fed up of endless ammo ... DONT try Gib Fest... youll hate it :p :D

Rayman1103's mutation mod has a few game modes that completely get rid of ammo piles and don't have magically reappearing guns, once you pick it up, it's gone except for the one in your hands..

Not sure about .vpk mods though (client side ones).

Agreed though there is way to many ammo piles on maps in vs and co op etc, at the least the ammo piles should not be unlimited (standing there constantly picking up ammo) perhaps ahve it so there is a limited amount from each pile that can be grabbed.

Other than Mutations and singleplayer a VPK wouldn't be able to do anything anyway.
Honestly your best bet is either hosting a server with a mod that does it (I'm sure they exist) or find servers that do it and favorite them.

you must be playing the L4D2 maps alot cause if you play on the L4D1 maps the Ammo Piles are in the exact same locations with some exceptions so Valve could make spawns for all the weapons

It would substantially alter the gameplay. Some would find it preferable, adding a little bit more of the resource management of games like Resident Evil and whatnot, but others would hate it. It's much more appropriate for a mutation, so, HEY! There ya go! ;)

For example, generally speaking when I equip a laser on a gun, I'll stick with that gun for the rest of the campaign. I tend to rely very heavily on my pistol(s), especially the ridiculously OP desert eagle (heh) so it's not very hard to cruise from ammo pile to ammo pile without having to scrape the bottom of the barrel ammo-wise. That would no longer be possible with the changes you propose.

Not that I think it's a terrible idea. I'd actually like it quite a bit, and would probably use my primary weapon more, swapping it out for whatever I came across, shifting roles as the weapon dictates. Sounds like fun. But if you're married to your lasergun, it basically means you're being forced into becoming an Akimbo Assassin except for the occasional horde or special, and for some that ain't so hot.

Off-topic, but I think taking ammo from an ammo pile should use a bar that will fill up as you have more ammo, similar to the bar you see when reviving a teammate or healing. The bar will be partially filled depending on how much ammo you have (eg having no ammo will start you with an empty bar, and a half-empty gun will start you with a bar that's half the length of the full bar), and it will increase over time as you continue to hold down the use key, indicating how much ammo you have in total. Holding it down all the way will let you have full ammo (like taking from a "normal" ammo pile as per original L4D), but it would take a lot of time for the bar to completely fill. You won't be able to take 700 SMG bullets instantaneously from an ammo pile anymore, and it makes even taking ammo a teamwork thing, since an entire team occupied with taking ammo is a flock of sitting ducks.
Personally I'd rather have this than remove ammo piles completely since that can stifle gun variety within the team. If everyone runs out of ammo and finds an infinite gun source (guns that don't disappear even when somebody picks one up), everyone's going to be using the same weapon.
