How can I play Left 4 Dead 2 Splitscreen by using a PS3 controller?

Can I get just some simple steps to do this? I really want to play with my step-brother splitscreen, but he only has a PS3 controller. I've seen other posts about this on Google, but it's only for a Xbox 360 controller. Can I just get simple instructions to play splitscreen with a PS3 controller?

Since the game has no Ps3 release I kinda doubt it has official support for the controller. I could be wrong but I think you need a 3rd party program to get the controller working and that probably can only replace player 1.
