Ads on offical servers
Why does Valve have ads on offical servers. Was buying the game not enough?

There's now two types of "Official" servers. Ones actually hosted by valve which are ad free and pinion servers which Valve doesn't pay for so they use ads to earn the money back (/make a profit). It sucks but unless valve gives them the boot it ain't going to change.

Ads for me start playing during the loading screen, so while I can't see it I have to hear them most of the way through >_>

They also tend to be bad servers, high ping.

yeah 3rd party servers have always been ♥♥♥♥ and will conrinue to be ♥♥♥♥

Maybe not look at it, but you're forced to sit through it. And quite frankly, an ad for anything that plays when I'm trying to game will make me much less likely to investigate that thing.

That aside, Pinion White Label servers are horridly bland, almost always pure, and can have terrible pings. I never play them if it can be helped.

Hit the console key the second the audio starts. By that time you've already loaded you're just waiting for the people trying to run this game on a ti-83. Hitting ~ will bring you to that stupid server welcome page so you can close it within a second of it starting.

You might not be FORCED to look at it, but you are forced to listen to them even if you close them. It's stupid ♥♥♥♥ like that makes me feel like I'm playing on a console because I cannot block it in game without firewalling the entire server, which I have been doing lately.

I played on a pinion server once for less than 5 min, server pinged at 40 but when I joined it felt like I was playing at 15fps, it was unpleasant enough for me to block their entire ip range through my router. Probably wouldn't be so bad but their hardware is way too overloaded. I'm thinking dedicated box with intel celeron cpus.
