Valve is letting L4D2 die with Pinion White Label servers
Has anyone had a good experience using these ♥♥♥♥♥♥ servers? Every time a game connects to a Pinion White Label, pings skyrocket to 300+ and everyone leaves. They seem to be the most available servers, probably because no one wants to play on one.

Can we get rid of them or otherwise blacklist them?

I gave Pinion servers a fair chance. Alas none of the games on these servers were good experiences. Latency issues. Region issues for me. ( I am west coast, but connect to east coast. ) Glitched finales where the escape vehicle showed right away instead of fighting hordes & tanks like usual. Lately I have been using a workaround by typing openserverbrowser in console & selecting the server manually. Might want to give that a shot Anniesboobs.

I agree these servers are very bad you must change them quickly valve.
Thanks, Dr Chaos MK. I'll check out what the server browser offers.

Seriously, Chet. Get Pinion White Label out of here

yeah. i'm hoping that someone might be able to make a mod that disables the MOTD so we don't have to deal with the commercials if Valve doesn't do something about these ♥♥♥♥ quality servers.

I dont know what servers I'm on, but lately they work very, very badly. I get messages like "We're sorry, this server doesnt work in your country" or something. What do I care about that?! Just put me on a proper server, I dont care about your problems. This is Steam's work, not mine, as a client.

They're the most available because valve repurposed alot of the the official inhouse servers and replaced them with the pinion garbage. All of these problems have been prevalent since day one and both valve and pinion are well aware of them. This game is old and they cant make any money off it unless they throw it away for 5$ so Im sure they went with the cheapest hosting company they could find. Im sure they signed some kind of contract so get used to it. Hopefully they'll dump them whenever the contracts up because they clearly dont know what they're doing.

You could blacklist all the pinion but then good luck finding any server let alone a decent one in most regions. I just dug an old p4 rig out of the closet and setup my own linux dedicated server.

When you're ingame, open the console and type "status" w/o quotes. The console will output server info including the name of the server. I've done this for plenty of servers and have found that the worst ones were on Pinion White Label whereas the best ones were actually hosted by Valve. Keep in mind this is through the proper lobby connect methods and not by joining servers through the server browser.

I don't believe that Valve has delegated all L4D2 server hosting to this terrible company, but they certainly have allowed a lot of it. In my mind, these White Label servers are third party and should not be consider OFFICIAL dedicated server.

Chet, please change the way lobbies search for servers and label these PWL servers as third party and not official dedicated.

I've sent this message to Chet, I hope that he actually reads it:

Chet,

I'm writing you because I'm concerned about the state of Left 4 Dead 2 and its community.

Recently I've noticed a lack in quality official servers. Doing a bit of digging I've found that L4D2 is mostly comprised of third-party Pinion White Label servers. While I understand that you and your company can't host all the servers all the time, you could, at the very least, ensure that the official servers that we're forced to play on are run by people that actually care about the quality of your games.

Left 4 Dead 2 has your name on it. It's your baby and it's your reputation at stack when the game fails to deliver.

I believe that you're trusting too much in a company that isn't able to meet Valves standards, or at least the standards that we as consumers have come to expect from a company such as Valve and a professional such as yourself.

I ask that you reconsider your agreement with Pinion White Label and change hosts so that the quality of your fantastic games aren't tarnished.

I've also started a forum post in the hopes of catching your attention:

I hope to hear from you

I would not say there is a lack of Official Dedicated servers. Rather... the lobby does not connect to a good one. At least in my case. Like i said lately I use the openserverbrowser to connect to servers for co - op. But I always find at least 3 or 4 which suit the needs for all 4 players.

Have you tried going idle while playing a campaign and bringing up task manager to monitor your cpu/ram usage?

Also im sure a hard drive defrag, virus scan and registry repair wouldn't hurt. If you dont maintain your OS's software environment, anywhere from a few months to a year, your computer will slow down and run like crap. Lack of software maintenance is why people have to reformat so often.

I haven't had anything wrong with them gameplay wise, but they're so damn vanilla, almost every last one, and make you sit through advertisements, I despise them. I never use one unless I'm desparate. The same goes for Team Fortress 2.
