Workshop mods not showing up ingame after downloading.
I subscribe to a "mod" in the workshop and it downloads yet when I launch l4d2 it doesnt show up in my addons list from the main menu. Any ideas?

Allow the mod to fully install, then launch and relaunch your game. This should work for most mods.

However, some mods downloaded a "zip" file which you need to unpack manually, you can do this with many programs such as "winrar" and put the files into the designated folders of use.

Same here. ... am on an iMac 27 w/10.6.8. Everything works as it should from the Workshop subscroption to the addons pre-loading on the main menu but they do not show up in the addon menu, or get applied in-game.

Hopefully, they (Steam) are aware of this and are working on it. Macs rarely come first in development or fixing bugs so I have learned to be patient.

I am able to load and use add-ons manually installed the old way. I was going to test finding a Workshop add-on via the non official L4D2 website and install it manually to see if it would work that way which would eliminate an addon compatibility variable and leave Steam as the most likely culprit.

There is a Mac specific forum on Steam. You may find more info there. Reply back on this thread if you find anything useful eh.

For those that come here and are wondering how to fix this problem I have the solution. First off the problem is only present on Mac users like myself. Second off you need to go to
library/application support/steam/steam apps/common/left 4 dead 2/left4dead2/addons
In the addons folder you will see a folder called "workshop" this is where all your subscribed addons go when you subscribe to them on the workshop. You are going to copy everything in the folder and past all of that to the addons folder. So basically for the mods to work they need to be in the addons folder not the subfolder workshop inside of addons.

I assumed it was only present on Mac's because I haven't heard anything about Pc users having this issue. But Valve did say it should be in the next patch.

I'm having this same problem now. I tried copying the files from the workshop folder to the addon folder and while it loaded them, some appeared with wrong names and even one "not specified".
Please don't tell me reinstalling the game is the only answer because that takes a reaaaally long time.

You should never move workshop files into the addons folder.

Simply make sure that the files installed corectly, then allow them to load by launching L4D2 and restarting it.

This problem seems to be present on every game that works with the workshop, so none of the workshop addons for Left 4 Dead 2, Garry's Mod, Killing Floor, DOTA 2, etc don't load up when you open the game.

@Widowmaker
Yeah I know, it was a temporary fix. I'm leaving reinstalling the game as a last resource.

Did we try deleting the individual files and letting them reinstall?

Im not sure exactly what is happening with this but this is only present for me in l4d2. All other games download the files just fine but I do ocasionally have issues with gmod now downloading a few select files. For that I just unsubscribe, launch the game, quit the game, quit steam, and resubscribe to the authors mod. I'm sorry to hear this wasnt a global solution and I do hope valve knows what's wrong and that they are working on a fix.
