Use the demo recorder. Open console (~ key) and type "record filename" and when you're done recording what you want, open console and type "stop" (without quotation marks). Also I think you're not supposed to put spaces in the filename.

Now if you go to your left4dead folder (it's C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead\left4dead for me) you'll find filename.dem, which is the video you recorded.

To watch it you open L4D, open console and type "playdemo filename". Pressing shift+F2 opens up the demoui which allows you to pause, speed up, slow down, and you can also use the demo smoother and more.

I think doing it this way reduces lag because you're not using an outside program like Fraps to record a live game... But anyway, if you record using the demo recorder then you can use Fraps to record your demo at 30 fps and with the highest settings if your computer can handle it. I personally use Fraps but you can use whatever you want.

There are also a lot of useful commands you can use to hide parts of the HUD or everything on the HUD, remove glows, remove crosshair, hide chat/text, switch to thirdpersonshoulder, etc...

This is how I record all my videos.

Fraps is by far the best recorder, if your computer can't handle them then your computer is bad. xFire doesn't contain any viruses, this just shows how ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ you are.

use Dxtory its got no hit on fps and you can play the game in 1080p but record in 720p which is neat

Someone that things xfire is a virus is a noob. That's like saying: "I installed MS Office, now I have a virus"...
Fraps is a peice of godshit. uses Dxtory, once you have it set up properly it has no negative effects on FPS and improves the running of the game greatly. the recording is high quality, it's easy as ♥♥♥♥ to use after about a day using it.

Try this video of mine : /watch?v=jVoTccjUDio
Its really laggy

Fraps works perfectly, for l4d you must lock the framerate to 30 fps. If you have usually and constantly more than 30 fps when you play it's all good. If not try with lower graphic settings. If it's always laggy it's your computer the problem.

such a pointless respond. Nobody was even reading this thread and you reply to it, and you also say something that nobody asked for.
